Suit Inflation Rigging for Xdeep NX Project Backplate

Not sure why the typical approach won't work on that plate, just with the cam band lower down. Here's a dive-rite but others are similar: Could also drill a hole up higher.

    Xdeep Zen inflator hose length?

It would, but one reason it's not done that way is that the elbow makes donation more difficult. (Everyone is trying to hold the second stage, rather than your hand being out of the way down the hose a bit.)

    XDEEP zen deluxe or standard

For the benefit of others, if the lead comes loose, it's obviously a problem. If the wing fails, you can float (a larger than normal breath can easily compensate for the gas weight in a full AL80) and/or swim up without dropping lead -- that is the very definition of a "balanced rig"...

    Drysuit undergarment for great lakes?

I was comfy with 4th Element Arctic + Xerotherms. (Opens the door to mix & match at other locations.) The Halo AR alone is said to be slightly warmer & less buoyant.

Trip Report Cozumel in early June, 2025 - Iberostar Resort and Dressel Divers

Dressel often runs a deal for free SDI Advanced Adventure Diver instruction (equivalent to PADI's AOW) as well. E-learning done in advance, but the sampler dive selection may be a bit sparse. Nonetheless, the instructors I came across knew their stuff.

    Thunderbird aln80 (neutral buoyancy)?

Air weighs what it weighs. The only way the buoyancy swing is less is if you don't consume as much.

    Thunderbird aln80 (neutral buoyancy)?

Aluminum is a pretty inefficient source of negative buoyancy. I would much rather have a standard AL & a bit of lead or steel than a neutral AL80. You will be heavier climbing the boat ladder with the neutral tank.

    Thunderbird aln80 (neutral buoyancy)?

My "normal aluminum" Luxfer AL80 is +1.4 lb empty in fresh water with valve & 1st stage (measured directly). Add 0.8 lb for salt water. I don't think the neutral AL80s are a good choice, especially for single-tank, wetsuit diving. (No idea if that's your scenario, just speaking generally.) The...

    Tank Pricing

Might want to drive down to Flatiron Scuba. $55 for standard hydro/fill, $80 for O2 clean. Not great, but better.

    some stuff. Hi :-)

There are many with far more technical diving experience than myself, but I'll throw out some thoughts. I wouldn't call Nitrox and Deep specialties "technical diving". However, mandatory decompression stops crosses that line for nearly all agencies. Planning becomes paramount to ensure...

    Fins, weights & hose questions

This is normal because you should be neutral with nearly empty tank & wing. The gas weight in a 12L tank is 3.1-4.7 kg (200-300 bar), requiring 3.1-4.7 L of air in the wing to compensate. However, since you're sinking with empty wing at the end -- presumably with a nearly empty tank -- then...

Dive Rite TransPlate harness, SS Plate, 40lb Artic wing review.

That much gas and suit compression would steer me towards a drysuit as redundant buoyancy (not to mention warmer!). You might consider verifying that you can make a controlled ascent from the bottom with an empty wing (simulated failure). The peace of mind from a successful demo is awfully nice.

Dive Rite TransPlate harness, SS Plate, 40lb Artic wing review.

As a point of reference, a XXL 7mm wetsuit loses less than 12 lbs of buoyancy at 100 ft. For single-tank, there's 5 lb (AL80) to 7 lb (HP100) you have to carry at the start of the dive. So 17 lbs of total buoyancy to compensate worst case with AL80 tank. Your 40 lb wing has tons of margin. The...

The Journey to Decompression Procedures with Sidemount

While it's possible for an AL40 (about 1/2 liter of air required), it's silly to do so. An AL80 will take more air, and then what? Are you going to breath at the upper range of your lungs for the next 30 mins? You should ALWAYS adjust the wing to enable use of the optimal breathing range in...
