    1st stage Ports

My appologies if this has already been posted, but I can't seem to find a good answer to the question of 1st stage ports. Regulator literature always lists different port configuration and I was wondering how it factors into selecting a first stage? 1. What exactly is the difference between...

    Do you Drink and Dive?

I've seen three emergencies during my diving career of people who went on a dive when they shouldn't have...and two paid with their lives. As a responsible diver, the first thing I do before I get on the boat or check gear is to determine whether I am fit for a dive or not. As Rick pointed...

    Turks & Caicos Operators

I spoke to Wayne at Ocean Vibes and he suggested I use Big Blue since they are right at the leeward marina. Also spoke to someone at Caicos Adventures and they said I should take a taxi to the dive shop and catch their hotel bus to the boat. Big Blue would be my best bet if they go to the nice...

    New to Board, Wetsuit advice

Welcome to the board. I'm a new board member too and I'm really impressed by the wealth of knowledge and sense of community. I've been diving in Hawaii in May and I was ok with a 3mm full. If you plan to dive SFL/Hawaii the most, I would suggest a 3mm full suit, boots and gloves which will...

    Turks & Caicos Operators

Thanks for the information. Dive Provo and their 45 minute limit is definitely off the list!

    Turks & Caicos Operators

Thank you for the responses. I think the best idea is to call them directly to check where they are diving these days. Big Blue is not cheap, so I'd be really disappointed just to dive Grace Bay. As I hear it, NW Point, French Caicos, West Caicos and Middle Caicos are the places to go in...

    Turks & Caicos Operators

I'm on my way to Provo in April and I would like to know if anyone has had positive or negative experiences with "Big Blue Unlimited" or "Dive Provo". My wife and I are staying far away and I have to take a boat to the Leeward marina each morning and those two operators are there. I was told...

    Uwatec Air X

Battery on my Air X went dead recently and when I called the LDS (authorized dealer), they said it cannot be replaced. However, they said the UWATEC had an upgrade special allowing me to buy an Air Z for half price. I called the manufacturer and found out that they do have an upgrade...

    Halcyon

I was quoted about $650 for a Eclipse MC kit with SS/BP from my LDS. However, I've seen them on ebay once in a while for much better prices. Also, as Tobin and Andrew point out, these rigs are totally customizable, so price range varies depending on the choice. Thanks everyone for the...

    Becoming a DAN member?

If you have reservations about the cost, then at least start with the DAN membership. At the very least, the magazine is really informative. Also, DAN is a diver registry that gives great advice. It's a non-profit (DAN membership not to be confused with DAN Insurance) that the dive community...

    Purchasing new equipment

I have purchased major gear from a LDS as well as from LeisurePro.com. The big difference is that you get a value add when you buy from a good LDS, which is great for a new OW diver. A quality LDS will give you great advice, follow up service, continuing education, and generally be a place...

    Halcyon

Mccabe, Just a quick question for you. You said you have an SS backplate, but you use an Aluminum one when you travel. Why not just use the Aluminum one all the time? I ask because I travel in order to dive, so I'm wondering if there's any drawback to just having the aluminum backplate?

    tips do dive masters

Tip whomever is in charge, but make sure the other person is present when you do or at least let them all know you gave a tip. Boat crews are supposed to work together and share tips. However, if someone is going above and beyond, i'll slip them a bit extra to show my appreciation.

    Hello from NYC

I'm happy to find this board while searching dive operator recommendations for an upcoming TCI trip. As I'm sure you all know, dive operators can make or break a dive vacation. Good to know there's a valuable resource out here that I can count on. :D
