    Diving in or near Amarillo

Diving around Amarillo? You pretty much named em. The Stillen Basin is the holding pond on the other side of the dam at Lake Meredith. Some people call it Spring Canyon. It's liable to be packed with party goers this weekend. Otherwise that would probably be your best bet for "close" to...

    Standard MOD

I think it's funny that we can't have a conversation, debate, or whatever you call it without some individuals getting pretty defensive and resort to GI3 like tactics. I'm not a mindless drone. I'm not going to automatically start doing things a certain way because person A and B tell me to. I...

Considering a short term move to the Denver area...

There are places to dive in Colorado and New Mexico. :) A lot of divers from the Denver area make frequent trips to New Mexico. The majority of my buddies are in New Mexico and Colorado. Don't let the landlocked state scare you. We find ways to get wet. :)

    Standard MOD

When doing a switch. You and your team mate verify that there isn't a MOD label. You assume that it's a bottom stage and appropriate for the deepest part of the dive. THEN you check the analysis sticker to verify the contents of the bottle. You DO do that right? I'd much rather trust an analysis...

    Standard MOD

Isn't part of the whole team process knowing who's got what gas and limiting the dive based on the shallowest MOD / END? Shouldn't that be caught during the planning phase of the dive rather than during the dive? Proper switching procedures should mitigate that. If you and your team mate...

    Standard MOD

Somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 - 50ish. Nowhere the most experienced diver. MOD markings doesn't replace analysis markings and most likely the stages are going to be the same gas mixture as whats in your back gas and will be breathed down before you touch your back gas. It has nothing to do...

    Standard MOD

Bottom gases don't need to be labeled as the mix should be appropriate to the dive to begin with.

Long classes or split up, with or without LDS home base?

For me personally, having the break allows me to do a self-analyzation (is that even a word...?) of what went right and what went wrong. I can play back the dives in my head to determine where I screwed up and why. From there I can gather a game plan in my head on how to remedy the problem...

I'm selling all my recreational gear

Cow Pasture Blending Where else could you be doing this: Look up and see this: :) Carrie, I know where you're coming from. This whole technical diving thing adds a whole other level of expense into the equation. Regs can be converted for technical use pretty easily with some different...

I'm selling all my recreational gear

Have you thought about removing the yoke and putting a DIN on your existing regulator? It'd be cheaper. :) I have 7 regulators and contemplating buying at least 2 more. It's a never ending quest. :) Where I come from, we dive remote springs where the only access to O2 and HE is what we bring...

    My DSAT Tec Deep Class

One of the few times that you will ever have a left post when it's really a right post failure or vise versa is when you have a low pressure hose split that runs from right to left or vise versa. Other than that it should be pretty easy to diagnose which side the bubbles are coming from and you...

Keep the AL100's. You can use them as transfill tanks. You can never have enough tanks or regulators. :)

    Subclinical DCS and Deco Dives

On EAN32, the NDL limit for 70' is about 45 minutes. Even with the insanely slow ascent your average depth is around 50' or so and your total run time still doesn't exceed the NDL of that profile. Instead of doing a 2min. stop at half stop (I assume you mean half of your maximum depth, so...

Long classes or split up, with or without LDS home base?

It depends instructor to instructor and class to class. Any of the classes can run straight through over their given time frame or they can be broken up into weekend and/or evening segments. My particular Fundamentals class was broken up over two long weekends.

    Congratulations James, Jason and Justin

Thanks everybody! It was good to see you this weekend, Ron. Look forward to diving soon... You're more than welcome to use a set of my dub's if you want. Between the group, I'm sure we could get you set up. :)

More dives in Rock Lake have been opened up now because of the credentials, besides that, I really want to hit up some places in the great lakes, east coast, west coast, red sea, and of course the pnw.... Maybe I'll make some firm plans to go visit my uncle in Seattle for a few days. :) Want to...

    When to start DIR training?

If you feel like that's the way you want to dive, then now. Take the Primer or go straight to the Fundamentals class. Rec 1 GUE's OW class. You can then progress from there.

    Fundies w/single....one or two regs?

There's plenty of drysuit diving to be had in Texas. Unless you're diving in tropical locations using double AL80's then most instructors will require you to dive dry. You'll figure out that wetsuits are inappropriate for many diving occasions.
