Shearwater Petrel user here. Very happy and looking to get the newer Perdix as well. Hard to beat the quality of construction, the user interface, and the customer service.
LM Reel and Halcyon spools over here. I really like the Halcyon spool because the way it's machined it's easy to grasp and let spin freely without your fingers slipping through the hole:
You will very likely see a variety of sharks during April/May. I have seen Tigers a few times in the South but they are a little more difficult to spot than other species.
Don Questo has a shaded area but it is more the outdoor dining area so there aren't actually lounge chairs in that spot...
That's exactly why I specified USA - to indicate that was relevant to that specific country. I live by the Red Sea so I'm quite aware of other Wreck and Cave communities.
Actually it was a novel idea for Wreck diving in the North East USA and was met with quite a bit of resistance when it was first being introduced from the Cave diving community. The typical argument being that "progressive penetration" is a much safer and proven method and the use of lines in...
I dive within my dive plan using a Petrel in OC Tec mode and a Suunto in gauge mode, and as backup a slate with lost gas scenarios and laminated cards like a matrix that have a series of varying bottom times and different max depths - similar to this example:
It's also worth noting that on previous models such the Vyper - If you dive in Gauge mode the unit will not let you switch back to the other modes before the no-flytime has counted down. I don't know if this is also the case with the EON so it's worth reading up to check.
Everyone knows that a Cave Diver is basically a frustrated Wreck diver that can't get over sea sickness ;-)
Seriously, while a lot of the skills in both are similar and even have their roots in Cave Diving, each environment has its own challenges and should be trained for accordingly. My...
I'd like my Shearwater with an mp3 player, integrated Playstation, and a Spotify account.
Whether it's A.I. Computers, Dual Bladder Wings, or Split Fins... I'm constantly amazed at how emotional things can get on SB over a piece of equipment.
I really like 15L steel tanks. Not only do they provide you with more gas, but they don't have that excessive floaty buoyancy shift that AL tanks have as the tank starts to empty. Keep in mind that the cylinders come in a variety of shapes... some are short and wider while others taller and...
I don't know why you're under the impression that a plan needs to be executed strictly only by following RT's on a slate with pre-cut tables?
That is one way of doing it and probably the way the vast majority of us have been taught. But a plan is merely a predetermined set of parameters that...
Your plan has tolerances and contingencies, and you dive within the plan - the real time feedback still falls within your plan that's all, they are not mutually exclusive. What you have is indeed intrinsically linked with your pre-plan... at least I would hope so.
P.S.
Would love to dive with...
"You have what you have" during the dive is very largely predetermined by your dive plan and objectives... it doesn't exist within a vacuum. You are going to take down what you need for the dive and plan accordingly... and that can change depending on each dive's requirements.
"You have what...
You stated earlier that your pre-dive planning no longer matters once you start your accent or is a controlling factor...
If you are planning a dive and one of the main reasons for planing is to insure adequate gas supply for the required deco, then of course it matters... if you have...
