    Tech through PADI or TDI?

It does make a difference (to me) what agency one chooses. As has been mentioned, there are certain approaches in the training,, philosophies, teaching materials, etc. that are all part of the agencies overall approach to diving education. I have certified with a few different agencies and...

    Boat captain encouraging wreck penetration

Disregard the patronizing posts. You made a good call and you shared your experience in the Basic Scuba Discussion for the benefit of others who may not have enough experience or may feel pressured in a similar situation and may not make the best decisions. Thanks for your post.

OK... I know I have posted before about Rescue Diver...

Rescue was probably one of the most useful and rewarding courses I've ever done. A very large part of what made it so beneficial for me was the instructor, who I had been training with for some time. He really put me through the paces and was very thorough.. For Rescue and Technical courses...

    How do you carry accessories?

I actually started a similar thread due to the amount of gear I was taking down on wreck dives and found the suggestions very helpful. Diving shorts w/pockets or strap on thigh pocket?

    Increased conservatism?

If I look at the trajectory over the past few years, I would say overall my diving seems to have gotten a little more aggressive. However, I tend to go on a case by case approach and evaluate the conditions for each dive including my own readiness and how sharp I'm feeling. Has it been a...

    reducing trimix costs

While the OP dd mention a max bottom depth of 65m which generally speaking ICD isn't as a much of an issue as in deeper hypoxic ranges , I couldn't help thinking the exact same thing... at least regarding possible future deeper dives. Honestly lermontov, I think it's best to tighten up any...

    Question about women's BCD's

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I think we're probably leaning towards a BP&W setup. I dive this myself and have been encouraging my wife to give it a try. She's going to give my rig a spin but since she has a smaller frame the plate is probably going to be a little too big for her...

    Harness setup on the backplate.

The fist or fingers between harness and chest is a general guideline. You should tweak it over a few dives to what feels comfortable to you and doesn't inhibit mobility. One thing to consider is most webbing stretches a little in the water as well so adjust harness accordingly.

Weights on cam band vs plate

I've got integrated weight pockets on my harness and trim weight pockets on my cam bands. I find this modular approach works very well for me. Depending on the exposure protection and the additional gear I take down with me I can tweak my weighting and distribution accordingly - and ditch if...

    Question about women's BCD's

My wife and I are going to be doing some equipment shopping and one of the items on her list is a BCD. She's a very experienced diver but believe it or not, has never actually owned her own gear except a wetsuit, fins and mask. So I'm wondering... does it really make a difference if she gets...

Looking for ideas; Liveaboard in May 2018

I just saw a doc. on Nat Geo on Socorro and Clipperton that was absolutely jaw dropping - just made the connection with your post. WOW this is definitely on my short list - within the next two years hopefully. I've read good things about the Nautilus LOB's so that's probably the way to go...

Looking at BC's and regs for trip, relatively new diver, thoughts?

You can't go wrong with Scubapro. I've been using those regs for a long time and they have performed very reliably. If you don't want something too expensive check out the mid range of regulators, but also consider the type of diving you will be primarily doing. Do you need something for cold...

Back inflate or wrap around BCD??

That's key. Lot's of folks in the beginning have the shoulder straps on way too tight which inhibits mobility. Ideally you should have a relaxed tension so that you can reach over from your right arm and touch your left D-ring and vice versa, as well as be able to reach back and manipulate...

Back inflate or wrap around BCD??

As mentioned by USMC CPL, why not consider a BP&W ? There are quite a few advantages with this setup. It is easier to get into trim, once you have the harness dialed in it will fit you perfectly, and it is modular so you can swap out wings depending on how much lift you need or if you plan on...

Looking for ideas; Liveaboard in May 2018

Thanks for the link - great article! I have to admit that the notion of diving at a time where there are much less trousists and vessels around is very appealing to me. I have one last question... do the ecosystems or more specifically the marine life differ greatly in South Komodo vs. North...

    Too much lift?

From observations over the years I've noticed that divers who are overweighted, more often than not, tend to have a host of other bad habits as well. Lousy trim, poor situational awareness, standing on the choral, etc.. This leads me to believe that these bad habits - including being...
