New Toy - Airetex 45 w/ CB Nitrox

Priority valves after every filter and the filters in series, I have 2 large separate filters and 4 small ones in a bank - each has a valve. It does not matter where the unit was made - I have an Alkin since 2006 and I think it was made in Turkey, and it still runs like a top to fill @4500 psi...

How to handle violation of a dive site rules (Solo Diving)

It does not matter the circumstances of the dive or the conditions that existed by any one diver. Last time I checked, unless you are directly affecting my safety or security - have at it. I ain't yo mama and nether is anyone else. If a dive site explicitly forbids solo, they took your money and...

    DIN-Yoke Adapters, reasons to avoid?

I have the yokes and yoke nuts for my din regulators. I carry them with me and the tools to convert to yoke if I have to.

What is the draw of wreck diving?

I have spent my time aboard ships and spent hours wandering around above and below decks. Diving a submerged ship gives you a perspective that you can't get short of a bosun chair ride. No ladders to climb, touching the hull at the waterline, hovering above this and that. Gravity puts a limit on...

    Why are certifications valid forever?

Continually having to re-new anything is nothing more than revenue generation to pay the salaries of the make work people who were hired to handle the paperwork. It is also another measure of governmental control and intrusion which can be done away with. Why should you have to re-new a passport...

    Scuba assault investigation - Hawaii

How does taking video of someone taking fish constitute harassment? Is this just fluff from the "lets all be nice before you hurt my feelings" bunch?. If I'm doing that and someone then swims over and yanks my regulator out of my mouth - before I take the next breath, I'm going to stick a knife...

    Empty boat sinks during dive

Looks like the boat was trailer-able, so they probably left the drain plug out... As long as you are running, any water in the bilge should gravity drain with the plug out. Once they stopped though, the water came in. They must have slapped on their gear and exited before they saw any water. I...

    Cam Band Tension Pads

I tried those once. Reese makes what is called a sure-step pad that goes on boat trailers and boats that are different sizes and traction configurations. I replaced a pad on my boat trailer that had bad adhesive and used the one I took off to make cam band pads. They will compress under some...

    Tank hydro

Under the regulations for DOT or TC cylinders - VIP required before hydro Steel and Aluminum. Eddy test for aluminum not required as part of VIP, but I have it done before hydro to check it out. If it fails eddy I pitch it. Slowly, but surely, I'm getting out of aluminum. Frankly, I still have 2...

    Need help finding valve replacement...

I think your problem may be bigger than the valve. If it uses a Metric valve thread it is probably not a DOT certified tank and cannot be hydro tested. If it does not say DOT 3AA or TC 3AA and does not have a REE value, it is probably European. If the valve body is not cracked, it can be...

Beating a Dead Horse: BP/W Lift for Deep, Cold, Wet Dives

28 lbs is a lot of lead. I don't use that much in my drysuit. I use a DiveRite Transpac and Rec XT wing (45lbs) and back mount steel double 85's, while side mounting 2 aluminum 80's with an aluminum 20. 18lbs total ... 10lbs. belted - 2lbs in a pocket on each 80 - 2lbs in a pocket high on the...

    Pockets?

Dsix36 has a good idea that works for Him... I say him because I don't think a her would put up a "meany face" avatar. You can put a "d" ring on your belt between the weight pockets using a retainer. The weight pockets should slip right up next to the "d" ring over the retainer. The weight...

New Florida dive flag law coming on July 1, 2014

Make sure the barrel and receiver drains before you fire it!!!!! 4 sided, huh. That going to be hard to make in an inflatable. Had a couple of lift bags were the things were made like a bellows and each promptly split at the folds, not at the seams, after a couple years

    Tank hydro

DOT for SCUBA, hydro 5 years aluminum and steel. NO VIS required between hydro. Dive shops and Service shops "want" a VIS before filling usually. I fill my tanks and do my inspections, so I bypass that crap. I think pushing a tank to 5/3 pressure every year over works the material.

No air integration in high-end and tech DCs . Why ?

The Galileo Sol with TRIMIX will monitor up to 10 tanks, with or without transmitters, all with different gas mixes and will suggest gas changes. The smart transmitters will not time out (not using the gas) once the valve is turned on and will sync when that happens. You can turn off the tank...

    Arkansas dive buddies needed

Neither. The critters are AWOL in Roatan, although the reef and bottom is pristine. Cancun is only good at the Isle and that is highly seasonal and shallow. The best is Cayman and second is Key Largo down to MM 65.
