    Good chicken place?

Two recommendations, both too far away for a comfortable walk. Taxi might cost 40 pesos. Caracol grilled chicken is hard to beat at "el billy's" on 65ave. ASADERO EL BILLY 65 Avenida Sur, Independencia, 77664 San Miguel de Cozumel, Q.R., Mexico +52 987 880 0711...

Efficient path to tec trimix instructor?

Alright. Here's a post I intend to be based on real conversation I had 3 weeks ago while traveling in Belize: ---Not me--- Recreational dive instructor in a warm water environment, age 45, top shape. Diving 30 years, guiding 25 and instructing (mainly OW students and DSDs) for 20 years. Will...

RV Antifreeze vs 1st Stage Reg???

I've pushed water through a first stage. It works exactly as you are expecting it to. I can't guess how the internal components will hold up long term after exposure to antifreeze. Chemically speaking that's out of my knowledge and experience. Practically, you can push water through a scuba...

do I need to remove strobe O-rings and arm O-rings for flights?

I remove anything that makes a pressure container. One oring per flash battery compartment, one for my housing (port and body only need one 'leak' to equalize). Arms no, second oring on the same housing, also no.

I'm a rec instructor. I want to be a tec instructor. No tec experience. I'm gonna need your help.

This is probably the most common result of rushing through tec training quickly meeting minimum standards: Doc Deep dies during dive. I settled into somewhere warm/inexpensive when I wanted to dive extensively. It's effecient, I respect that. There's nothing gained by multiple flights and...

    Does age of wetsuit matter?

Should be good to go. Put it on wet the first time if it's stiffened up a little. --humor-- .. Biggest issue I hear of they tend to shrink several sizes... All on their own ; ) -- Cameron

    buying an old used regulator?

Salt gets inside if its been flooded or water drops from a wet dust cap drip into the reg. I have bought regs from the 1960s in the 2010s without sign of corrosion and in perfect usable shape. Eight years old is newer than any reg I own. Provided it hasn't been abused, should be good to go...

    Amazing cold tolerance

You can condition your body to a certain degree to manage cold. Maybe some natural disposition to it as well. I use to be able to survive repetitive dives in ice water, no wetsuit. The risks of hypothermia are real, as commonly described. Cameron

Stay in Playa del Carmen or Cozumel?

I'll echo the reply above. I do have a few friends who live in Playa and work in cozumel traveling daily back and forth... The commute is easy, but probably more transit time than I would want on vacation. Have you looked into the all inclusives here in Cozumel? I hear they are nice too. Cameron

Quarries - What's up with that?

Exactly!!! I dive primarily for sensation, not the view... That said, I seldom dive quarries back home, prefer blackwater river diving.

Why a mask with black skirt

I've recently switched from a black skirt to clear silicone after 23 years of black. From what I've noticed: Black: Sunshade = less glare Tunnel = less peripheral distractions Durable = won't yellow Ambient light blocker = better low light sensitivity (theoretically) Clear: Brighter = feels...

    NSS-CDS Full Cave: The Live-Blog

While cave diving against a strong flow is largely technique, there's also a strength and endurance component. I can't speak to the gender factors of upper body strength. But for myself after a few hours of pulling hand over hand (think light weight climbing or doing chin-ups) muscle tone...

Making Steel Doubles as Buoyant as Possible

A redundant bcd is a better solution but specifically to do what you're wanting... Strap on a capped section of ABS septic pipe like a pony bottle. Each litre is +2.2lbs buoyancy. Another option is honestly looking at how much you can realistically swim up in case of a complete bcd failure...
