    Roatan divemaster internship

My wife has been diving for free at Reef Gliders for over 4 years now and just did another one last Saturday. So, let me revise my statement because you are right, there are a bunch of dive shops that change management and owners that it is hard to find a solid place that will be there in a few...

I Tried Sidemount for the First Time

Yes, some people call them S-Drills, or safety drills, or shutdown drills, or valve drills. It's all just switching over to a good valve and shutting down, and isolating, if need be, the bad valve in order to conserve your air supply and regain a good air supply. In backmount gear, you have to...

I Tried Sidemount for the First Time

It sounds like you're going to end up loving the sidemount configuration. One great thing about sidemount is that it is a very versatile platform to build a mission specific configuration on. Your tanks can be hung almost anywhere on your rig, as long as you are familiar with the configuration...

    Roatan divemaster internship

Reef Gliders has been doing this for years and years and to this day honors theirs. What dive shop did you do your DM at, Stout?

    Roatan divemaster internship

It would also be wise to pick a place that offers free fun dives for life if you do your DM with them. I'm not sure if Coconut Tree offers this but I know for sure Reef Gliders in West End does and Altons on Utila might also still offer it even though the management of the shop has recently...

Any Recent Airport Problems Lost Luggage Stories/Suggestions

Another thing you can do is put your hotel or dive shop phone number on your tags so there is a local POC as well.

Trip Report...May 3rd - 15th...West Bay Beach (Henry Morgan Resort)

NOOOO !!!! PLEASE DO NOT FEED THE ANIMALS !!! This is a very bad habit that leads to aggressive predators. Many people have been bitten by aggressive morays because they expect to be fed and when they don't get fed they get frustrated and lash out or try and force the food from you...

    AOW instructors

Hahaha! You guys named most of the good guys I know of here, except Martin with Sun Divers. I don't think I've ever met him, or worked with him, so I can't judge him at all. All those people that were listed are good Instructors who live and breathe dive Instruction. The guys I'm referring to...

    AOW instructors

Hi Zznola, I've lived in Honduras for the past 3 years. I spent 2 years on Utila and the last year here on Roatan as a freelance Instructor (PADI Staff Instructor) and can tell you that you will have a hard time finding the caliber of Instructor you are looking for at any old dive shop without...

Deaths at Eagles Nest - Homosassa FL

To give my 2 cents on the PP02 question. 1.6 ATA PP02 is called the "contingency limit" to give a buffer for the accepted Maximum PPO2 limit of 1.4 ATA for recreational divers' emergencies, and for tech divers it called a "deco" PPO2, which is used as an acceptable PPO2 level to help with...

    Superior customer service

I've had my Predator for over 2 yrs now and have had the best customer service experience of my life with Shearwater's Curt McNamee. My first choice of dive computers is Shearwater because of their customer service. The rock solid performance and streamlined menu are just icing on the cake.

    Apeks 1st stage rotating

Did you open the tank and put some pressure on it? I have Scubapro MK25s and they rotate, like you're saying yours does, until I open my valve. Once it has pressure on it, the first stage locks into place and I have to close the valve and purge any pressure in the lines before I can change it's...

    Member introductions

Years tec diving: 2 No of deco dives: 200+ Tec instructor? No Trimix? Yes Rebreathers? No Caves? No Other comments: I dive to hunt lionfish or to teach. I got into tec diving in order to see what is down deeper than most people will ever see. I love the feeling I get when I'm looking up from the...

Spear point question re: Lion Fish

I've been avidly hunting lionfish for the past 2 1/2 years and have been developing my own lionfish container for all that time and now sell them here on Roatan and Utila, Honduras. What I would suggest for you is a 1/2" PVC tube to be used as a spear holder and a killing tool in one piece. To...

    Diving for Gold

Who is it? I've wanted to go up there and try it out since I have real diving experience and would love to pick their brain a bit about the realities of doing something like that.

2 Finnish divers dead, 3 injured in Plurdalen / Norway

What, in your opinion, would it take to create this level of CCR reliability, barring all consideration for cost or current technology, gianaameri? More or different sensors or more sensors and gas controllers? Go crazy with it, lol, and give me a <1% failure rate CCR unit.

2 Finnish divers dead, 3 injured in Plurdalen / Norway

I see. A <1% failure rate sounds better to me, lol. I guess I'll wait until the CCR failure rate matches my MK25 regs' to get into CCR since I'm not getting paid to dive. I'm sure this is one of the main focus' of pretty much all the CCR companies though. Thanks for the info.

2 Finnish divers dead, 3 injured in Plurdalen / Norway

I see. This is a pretty surprising revelation for me considering anytime in my life dealing with life or death situations and mechanical gear, both in the military and in the civilian world, the main consideration when choosing a piece of kit for a particular mission is reliability. All other...

    US Expat fatality in Vanuatu

SwedTekDiver, First thank you for posting your errors. I'm sure there will be divers that will take valuable lessons from it and it will make a difference for someone. I'm glad you're ok but I have to ask you, why on earth would you continue on with a technical dive after seeing so many red...
