I talked with another instructor from another dive shop who has the convienence of an on-site dive tank who said he could work with her one on one to try and get her past the issues. Nothing wrong with the first shop, just getting one on one will be more difficult. He also had a better place...
Last spring my wife and I went to do our first check out dive at Rainbow River in FL. We were both excited. On the way upstream the boat captain was telling about the area and offering tips about the diving there. One of his tips was that although you may see some fish on the sides of the...
Ok, local perspective here. Some good dive sites inshore but mid summer viz is only going to be +/- 20-25 ft. Offshore gets better from what I've been told, but I'm relatively new at this and haven't dove all the sites yet. About the only place I can think of to snorkel would be the pool at...
I did AOW right after OW because some topics were covered in AOW that interested me. Also, there was an instructor there during the AOW dives that gave me some peace of mind while I was getting acclimated to my new sport. This past summer I've been going to a LDS with a 16' indoors pool. That...
Just how does the grey market get supplied? To keep this simple, I'm going to assume that SP only has one plant that manufactures their regs, another for fins, etc. So when product comes off the production line, is there a split in the line where half goes to legit dealers and the other half...
Wow, things seem cheaper everywhere else. Tank rentals here are $6-8 if you're on a dive charter, add $5 if not. Air fills running $6 and nitrox around $15.
A buddy of mine found some used tanks at a closed dive shop. He's thinking about getting a few to save $ in the long run by not having to rent tanks. While I agree, the effort required to haul it to the LDS to get filled, then to the boat, then back home makes the tank rental seem reasonable...
I've got a smartcom also and it's a bit finicky about exactly where to put the irda to make the connection. Don't forget to open the cover. As far as your readings, you might check your settings to make sure you don't have conflicting units, such as meters and psi.
I've got a Smart Com too. After looking around at the UWATEC site at the available, compatible readers, I couldn't find but one company still in business. Then after calling several computer stores and google-ing, the cheapest I could find was around $50 + shipping. So for $10 more, I just...
Found this one on the net and can't find any references to it in the posts or via a search. Anybody know anything about it? It seems to be about what I'm looking for and the price seems right. model# 1000A

The 200yd swim was the hardest part for me. My first thought was "geez, I don't want to be a lifeguard". So what I learned from watching was that it's ok to float for 200yds. I opted for the 300yd, snorkel, fins, mask exercise. Was alot easier for me.
For those familiar with the the Scubapro computers, I have a Smart Com and the Smart Trak software. The Com records dives in the order of newest to oldest, but the Trak records them oldest to newest. Is there anyway to get them going in the same direction?
Thanks,
David
I've meaning to try the following for a way of determining weight. Let me know if its a valid method. Take your suit and fold it down the center line then start rolling it up in a roll from top to bottom. Then tie it so it doesn't unroll. Go to the pool or a deep bucket or whatever and add...
I'm 6'2" and wear the 3 mil Akona in a 4x and it fits fine. It's just right when diving in the Crystal Spring area where the water is 72. Hope this gives you something to compare to.
Good deal. The swim was the hardest part for the PADI course for me too. When the instructor said to jump in and swim I just looked at him said why, I thought this was scuba class, not life gaurd class. Oh well. I believe I saw it in the OW manual that you can also use mask and fins and...
I found a shop with a Visulator in stock about an hour drive from here. I'm thinking to drive up there to check it out as I don't want to buy a mask sight unseen. If that doesn't work, then its time to hit the other 2 local shops and just trying on everything. Odd that the least expensive...
After making some phone calls I think I'm going to try the Visulator but none of my LDS have it in stock. Does anybody have any direct opinions about this mask?
My current mask is a Scubapro Crystal Vu w/purge. It tends to leak around the upper lip or the sides if I turn my head too quickly. I've tried a couple of friends who have the same mask with the same problem. Also tried adjusting from loose to tight to no avail. I'm a big guy so I'm starting...
