    Central PA Spots?

When Dutch Springs 2014 season passes go on sale, probably next month, you can pruchase it and finish this season on th 2014 pass. A season pass makes diving Dutch pretty inexpensive. The breakeven point is 6-8 days depending on when you buy the pass. Passes are cheaper before the season starts.

    Diving in the Chesapeake Bay?

Mid to late summer, you have to deal with sea nettles (a stinging jellyfish). Most stay out of the water once they arrive.

Things to know before buying tanks

Steel tanks will allow you to reduce the amount of weight you carry, but only because the tank is heavier. I dive steel 120s at home in cold water (thick wetsuit) with 8lbs of weight. I would have considerably more weight with an AL tank. I think this is an advantage because it keeps me...

These guys are in business, of course they want to sell their services. Nothing wrong there.

Are Rescue Skills really needed by the average diver.... ?

This is no longer true. PADI requires Adventure Diver prior to Rescue. Deep is not required for Adventure Cert. My understanding is that it was changed to allow people like you to take the Rescue Course. ---------- Post added August 19th, 2013 at 12:11 AM ---------- I heard that one diver...

    CDX-5 Problem

It seemed to be coming from the adjuster cup area on the side of the reg. Looking at the parts diagram, I think that would be low pressure side. I don't do maintenence on regs, but wonder how this failure would have affected air supply.

    CDX-5 Problem

I dive with a CDX-5 first stage. I had a blowout of something internal to the first stage when I turned on the air to the regulator. It started with a bang and a rush of air sound similar to a tank o ring failure. In this case, the air leak was from inside the housing, not from the plugs or...

    My close call

Supervising a new Jr OW diver is a difficult job. Counting on them to respond as part of an effective buddy team is iffy, hence the special supervision requirements. When my grandson dives with his dad, we always double team him.

New diver wants to take a trip in sept

If you pick a location within the North Atlantic Hurricane Belt, be sure to get trip insurance that will cover you if a Tropical Storm pops up. The Dutch Antilles will usually be OK because it is far south, so Aruba, Curaco or Bonaire would be my recommendations.

water park in northeast where kids can do snorkeling and see colorful fish ?

I recommend going to the pump house area, entering the water and swimming to your left. You will see some interesting structures in shallow water. Just past these you will find a shallow grassy area with a sand bottom. You usually find a lot to see there. Most of the entries at Dutch are from...

Attention travelers, assistance needed. Help me select a location!

I think you can feel pretty secure at the resorts on Bonaire. The Plaza now has an AI option. We like Capt Dons and Buddies. They are next to one another. Great shore diving at both.

    Was I over weighted?

Next time you you at Dutch, divide your weights and put a couple of small weights in a pocket. Then at the end of your dive, find a nice spot at about 15 ft and remove the weights one at a time and set them on the bottom. You will be able to find out exactly what you need to hold your safety stop.

They have a beautiful location and the dive operation is first rate. If they get the rest updated it will be great.

Anyone use a Beanie instead of a hood

I too hate hoods. For my cold water diving, I use a beanie. They are fairly inexpensive, give one a try. Our water ranges from 70s at the top to the 40s below the second thermocline.

Florida Lobster Mini-Season Questions & Advise

We did twelve dives during the two day season with our LDS group. I have to admit that there was a lot of drama on the boat (happily not from our divers). We saw two out of airs and a number of divers had to be towed back to the boat. I was really suprised. The conditions were challenging...

Outrageous cost for nitrox vs. air

I don't know if it is outrageous, but I just paid $10/tank upgrade fee in the Keys. I try to always dive Nitrox, my son is more selective on where he uses it. I used 14 tanks to his five, but it really adds up. It would be interesting to know the cost involved, especially if the operator...
