Breathing rate, air integrated computers and DCI correlation

All nice and technical, but this is a Basic Area and lets face it the likelihood of DCI on an individual dive is pretty low while staying within the limits of any accepted model. Uwatec added an optional automatic way to trigger added conservatism that you don't like - that doesn't make it...

Breathing rate, air integrated computers and DCI correlation

I am in no way supporting his original contention about the female diver. I am trying to advance the discussion to the use of AI in the algorithum. I see nothing wrong with this feature or the logic behind using heart rate and breathing pattern to detect increased workload and make on the fly...

Breathing rate, air integrated computers and DCI correlation

I don't know about this woman and her DCS. But, it does bother me that a few of you cannot accept the idea that for most people, most of the time - your heart rate and respiration change when your physical exertion level changes. Sure other things can have the same result, but they are...

You should have spared the recreation divers your deco planniing lecture.

Getting too macho around here. I bow to the tec diver. The rest of us are unworthy.

Few pictures with my new E-PM1

Very nice! I ordered mine last Friday. I am hoping to have it before I go to Bonaire on Friday night. Any hints or tips?

Breathing rate, air integrated computers and DCI correlation

Breathing rate (and/or heart rate) is used by Uwatec as an indicator of workload. It has nothing to do with volume. You may not agree, but thats what they are using. Workload IS considered a factor in DCI. This is why the tables tell you to use a deeper planned depth when planning a high...

Breathing rate, air integrated computers and DCI correlation

I agree that heart rate monitoring would be best, but I have a Luna and am too cheap to buy the upgrade, plus I would probably be too lazy to wear the monitor all of the time. Using respiration is just easy.

Breathing rate, air integrated computers and DCI correlation

The computer samples the breathing rate early in the dive, then looks for increased rate. It is not using volume and has nothing to do with SAC rate. How much does it change NDL, I have no idea. How much does swimming over a 20' coral head change the NDL. I don't know that either. They...

Breathing rate, air integrated computers and DCI correlation

The computer uses one of the following as indicators of increased workload: increases in respitation rate increases in heartrate the highest of either the lowest of either Or it can use nothing. I am not sure everyone is clear on what constitutes DCI. This is a good source: -------------...

Breathing rate, air integrated computers and DCI correlation

Uwatec clearly explains how and why they modify nitrogen loading estimates by monitoring changes in respiration. If you disagree, take it up with them. If you own one of their computers and don't like it, then turn the feature off. If you are someone who is able to increase workload...

Breathing rate, air integrated computers and DCI correlation

The manual clearly tells users how to turn the feature off for those who disagree with how they chose to "estimate" workload and modify the algorithum. Whats your beef? None of this is an exact science.

Breathing rate, air integrated computers and DCI correlation

Lets put a little actual information into the discussion. This is the reasoning used for these calculations in the Gallileo Luna. It can be turned on or off as desired. I leave it on as it makes sense to me. At the base of any decompression calculation there is the transport of nitrogen...

Bonaire trip report 7/20 to 7/27

Are you asking about Aquacat Bahamas? If so, this is not the best place to ask - the Bahamas area would be better. ------- The Bahamas in April is nice, but water temps will be in the 70s, i would probably take a warmer suit or perhaps a hooded vest to wear with your suit.

Bonaire trip report 7/20 to 7/27

We suffered with room nonavailability a couple of years ago. Since then, we have specified early check-in on our reservations. We have been booking through Bonaire Pros. They have been able to do this for us at Capt Don's and Den Laman. We also pick up our rental truck at the airport. We...

    First dive trip to Florida

IMHO, You are going to want to travel to the east coast of Fla or the Keys. The west coast does not have the reef structures of the areas on the other side.

Learning American Sign Language with your buddy

    XZ-1 and strobes

Are you using a sync cable? You can force the flash if you set it to Fill in regardless of the shooting mode. This should make the internal flash fire, and the cable will fire the strobe. I have the internal flash masked out with tape on the housing so it can fire the strobe without affecting...
