Recommendation for recreational pony bottle size

Don't get all testy on me. My post was in response to DiveMaster_Tom who thinks ponys are unnecessary if you are properly trained. Your post is right on about selecting the correct tank for the dive and plan. I have a number of tanks, but I generally use a 30 cu ft pony, because in the water...

Recommendation for recreational pony bottle size

It's not about gas management, its about redundancy. The gas is not there to extend the dive. Using a pony bottle does not mean the divers are casual about gas management. To me it shows a degree on conservatism and caution. The ability to self rescue is big in my local dive community. That...

10yr old max dive per day

I found my grandson was really only good for two maybe three dives average per day during a week long dive trip. The little guys are pushing around a lot of weight for their size. Fins that fit them are not as good as those we use. They just get tired unless you really slow it down and stick...

Special Training to do Swim Throughs?

Amusing, but swim-through s do pose unique problems. As a very inexperienced diver < 10 dives, I had a DM lead my son and I through a swim through that not only was long and narrow, but it took a turn near midpoint and you could not see the exit. Because we were near the end of the group, the...

Signs you have too much scuba gear.

You wish you had bought the 10X15 ft shed for gear storage instead of the 8X10.

    Diver missing - Grand Cayman

I have seen tired divers surface needing help back to the boat or a pickup a number of times. I have never seen anyone dump their own weights. They often have to be reminded to inflate their BCD even though they are struggling to stay at the surface. Panic seems to override training in these...

    who offers unlimited nitrox

Anything can be negotiated in a package. Its the final price that matters. We used to negotiate for early check-in when doing the red eye flights.

    who offers unlimited nitrox

I agree with Herman. Get your package with just breakfast included. Part of enjoying Bonaire is to sample the various eating establishments. We found that a good breakfast was great, quick and easy. I have done a packages with breakfast, nitrox, truck and room at The Plaza, Buddies, and Capt...

Certification 2 years ago - no dives since. What next?

A refresher course is really what you need. My LDS only charges $50 for the refresher including pool time and equipment. Find something in your area. It will be worth the cost.

    Galileo Sol front frame detached!!

I would contact Scubapro and see if they will replace it. Its an unusual failure and they may want to see what went wrong.

    Diving + Venlafaxine (Effexor XR)

I have taken Effexor in the past without noticeable side effects on the surface or underwater. I am strictly a recreational diver. I primarily dive Nitrox when it is available. Most of my dives are less than 70-80 feet, but I do occasional dives to recreational limits.

    Fantasy Island, Roatan Update

My son and his wife were there late last year. He loved it and is ready to go back. It is a dive resort, not a 5 star hotel. He said the dive boats are new, the dive operation was outstanding. The food was good and plentyful. I will be going with them next time.

    Are you a pilot too?

I flew in the Air Force for 20 years (F111) and another 17 with Continental (B727,B737,B757 and B767. Since retirement my flying is strictly in the back of the plane or RC models. i started diving after I retired. Wish I had started sooner.

    I just don't log dives,why not?????

Lets see. - When was my last trip to Roatan? How much weight did I use on the NC Wreck dives in my 5mil suit? What dive site did I really want to revisit on Bonaire? Did I get my moneys worth from my season pass to Dutch Springs? If nothing else, a log book lets you answer this type of question.

    Asthma and ADS

sorry, I was wrong. The ADS does maintain 1atm pressure inside. ADS is a hard suit designed to maintain constant presdure. For those interested google ADS diving.

    Asthma and ADS

Air available at depth is under pressure. The deeper the depth, the more pressure required. Just like a regulator.

    Inserts vs Prescription Lenses

I had no luck with the stick on lens. They would always come loose. I finally found a mask that fit well, bought two and sent them off for custom lens. Best equipment money I have spent.

    Calgarian suing diver training organization

Of course its about the money. PADI is included because they are the only possible source of big money. Makes me ill to see this type of lawsuit filed.

Mike's DCS And Some Lessons Learned

Thank you for sharing this story. It has opened my eyes to the need for rapid access to emergency treatment - something I had never considered. As an older diver with scar tissue from several surgeries, I have taken to conservative profiles and use Nitrox where available. Now I will ensure...

Who carries dive accident evacuation insurance?

I too have Tricare, but would not want to rely on a government run plan to arrange for quick emergency transportation from a remote location. They just don't do anything quickly. I have DAN.
