Yeah as mentioned on this board a million times the internet has killed the brick-and-mortar stores. it used to be money was made in gear sales and not in training but that has since turned around where dive shops make the bulk of their money in training.
It's kind of weird how I think back when I was just getting open water certified the dive shop only sold jacket stylesBCs and was very recreational minded. There was another dive shop in town that was known as a "techie" shop and we were to never go there. Me being the open-minded curious guy...
I started to think they were doing that magazine as a joke or "what not to look like" because every issue was of divers in poor trim, poorly arranged gear, nothing streamlined, and over all cringy. Then you go on a dive boat or some open water tourest place and realize that the people in those...
Sidemount is a very personal thing. It was originally designed to be mission specific and now many cave divers dive it all the time. I never took a SM course. I read a lot and bought a rig. From there I made tweaks dive after dive. My configuration is forever changing and I try new things all...
I would have to say the biggest thing is donning and doffing the BC underwater. I just have a rigid backplate and wing for her to practice with in our pool. I know with a little more flexible harness or standard BC she could learn to roll in roll out of it just like I did.
Well she had her arm torn completely off and reattached on 2008. I worked as a dive master with special needs and scuba company but they are located several hours south of me. She can do things with 1.5 arms I would need 3 to do. I find myself much less adaptive then her.
Should we just reach...
If you "might need" some else's 7' hose when in a cave you need to seriously question your training.
However in the event I do need to share air with an OW or single tank diver I would much rather use a 7' hose then a 3’. Assuming you could just head to the surface in an open water environment...
My wife has an interest in getting certified but has her left arm partially non functioning. It is completely there and can grab things but not like a "normal" arm.
What type of certification should she go for? Are there any modifications allowed to the skills needed for OW?
I just completely support any business to practice the model they choose. Nothing wrong with being different. People rather b!+ch about how this store does things they don't like rather than just shop somewhere else. I believe in personal choice. Freedom goes both ways
Then do yourself a favor and shop elsewhere. If I knew I was buying a drysuit and I was going to buy it from this shop I would have no trouble spending $20 to try on suits or getting measured to order a suit.
I gave up trying that years ago. It's not even worth asking. I just had different size tanks depending on the type of dive I was doing.
Leesburg Florida was about as far south as I ever got getting a cave fill. I did get a couple of 3000psi fills on a boat but that's just because they filled...
