    Cove 2 Divers Being Stupid

Lamont- You are exactly right. Last week I observed another local instructor teaching what I believe was an advanced class surface with 3 students in the no dive zone and proceed to to do a nice relaxed surface swim back to shore. I'd bet money that no site briefing was done prior to the...

    Cove 2 Divers Being Stupid

I have to agree it has gotten out of hand. From my own observations it seems even worse than last year. Two weeks ago the water taxi had to wait over 15 minutes to pull in to the dock because of 2 divers below. On Saturday morning alone I noticed 3 sets of bubbles inside the no dive area AND...

    Maui-Diving from Lahaina area

Like others have said, I don't think Pacific Dive or Turtle Reef have boats. I also have not heard much good about Dive & Sea. I stay in Kihei when on Maui and use Ed Robinson, but Mike Severns and B & B Scuba come highly recommended as well. If you are going to travel to Kihei, I would...

    Trip Report- Quadra Island

I have seen wolf eels on every dive (3) I've done at Copper Cliffs. They tend to hang out under the boulders at the bottom of the wall.

(05 JUN 05) Missing diver at Whytecliff

SP- I think (or at least, I hope) that Daryl is saying that if you do get separated, you search for your buddy for whatever amount of time you have agreed upon before getting in the water. If you are not able to reconnect in that time, you complete (or abort) the dive, doing your stops on...

PADI vs NAUI certifications, and onto AOW

Some differences between PADI and NAUI courses, that I am aware of: PADI Open Water- 4 checkout dives NAUI Scuba Diver Course- 5 checkout dives or 4 dives and 1 snorkel (I just do 5 dives) PADI Advanced Open Water- 5 dives (deep, night, nav req'd, plus 2 electives) NAUI Advanced Scuba...

    Openwater Checkout Dives & Camera

I wouldn't have a problem with it on the tour on the last couple of dives if the student is showing good buoyancy control. On the dives where many skills are being done I think it's too much of a distraction. I'll have them give me the camera during the skills portion, then if they are...

    Molokini or Lanai ?

I have to say go to Molokini as well. We did Cathedrals 1 and 2, and were glad we did them, but they were a little disappointing. You never know what you're going to see at Molokini, but you're almost always guaranteed to have an awesome dive.

    Decisions decisions

I have Apeks TX50/DS4's on my doubles and a Scubapro MK16/G250 for my single tanks. Both of them are awesome and I think you'll be happy with either one of them. I have no personal experience with Atomics, but they do have a good reputation. I went with the MK16 simply because it is a...

    New To Seattle Bellevue area.

My own personal experiences with them are they have very large classes that are on very very tight time constraints. Because of this they are really only able to focus on the minimum skills needed to pass the class, instead of teaching the students good dive techniques, trim, proper buoyancy...

    New To Seattle Bellevue area.

I completely agree with Bob...all 4 shops have a very good reputation and you can't go wrong with any of them. Fifth D has a very good reputation as well, just sounds like they aren't what you're looking for. You have to feel comfortable at the shop you're taking the class through and the...

I second this suggestion. That's where I got mine for the same wing. Received it quickly at a good price. Brian

    Scubapro Mk16/G250 and the Alternatives

I have Apeks DS4/TX50's on my doubles and Scubapro MK16/G250 for my single tank. Both regs are great and I don't know that I really have a preference for one over the other. I don't think you can really go wrong with either.

    dive in kauai hawaii

The diving in Kauai is pretty good, we had a couple of good dives at Koloa Landing and Sheraton Caves last year. In the winter, the north end (Princeville) is virtually undiveable. You'll be heading to the southern end of the island (Poipu) for any diving, which is about an hour drive each...

    Bungee cord for inflator hose

Yeah, I can see how it could be disconnected. To combat that I run the lpi hose along the corrugated with an inner tube, then just the lpi thru the bungee, then I run the lpi thru another inner tube on the corrugated hose just above the connection. This prevents the lpi connection to the...

    Bungee cord for inflator hose

I decided to run my lpi thru my bungee simply because the corrugated hose (Oxycheq Signature series) wanted to 'catch' the bungee. In other words, the bungee would sit in the ridges of the corrugated hose. Not a big deal (I use the butt dump anyway) as all it takes is a little pull on the...

Hawaiian Air: Scuba Equipment as Baggage

I just got back from Maui yesterday. On the flight over I had everything except my wetsuit in my carry-on bag. Coming back I threw my wetsuit, Jet Fins, and some other, less significant items in check-in. I was not asked, nor did I declare what is in them and had no problems. On a related...
