    Fricken mail regulations!

Lead isn't carcinogenic by the way. Lead exposure can cause central nervous system toxicity. With scuba gear, the best way to avoid this is to not lick, eat, or grind up and inhale your lead weights. Holding them and shipping them through the mail shouldn't be a problem. The whole lead...

    octopus mount

Keep your octo on your short hose and keep it on a neclace around your neck with bungee cord. Or buy this product: Regulator Necklace

    Your max depth!

I have found that deco does indeed suck with a bad mouthpiece. Getting a sea-cure for that regulator.

    Who dives with a snorkel?

Does anyone know why the recreational instruction organizations require it? Even if you were out of gas, a jacket bc keeps your head out of the water and with a bp/w you can float on your back.

How much have you spent on scuba gear?

Since I started tech diving in the last year my costs have gone up quite a bit. I still need a canister light, a new wetsuit (crushed the cheap one), three first stages and two second stages. On the other hand I'm starting to think about a megalodon. Anyone want to buy a kidney?

    Choose a computer

If you are doing advanced nitrox, I'm assuming that you are going to be doing decompression dives. In this case, you may want to look at a tech computer such as the VR3 or one made by Cochran. From my understanding Suuntos aren't the best for deco diving.

    trying to decide

If you are buing from the LDS and they sell dive-rite, my suggestion would be to go with a dive-rite trans-plate, not the transpack. Get stainless as you will use less weight on your belt. Go with the venture wing instead of rec wing for a single tank. Whe you are ready to dive doubles, then...

    Tech Computers

The people with whom I dive use cochrans and VR3s. From my understanding, the cochran has a different algorithm that can get a diver out of the water faster. I feel that it is also more ergonomic on your wrist than a VR3. However, I found the advantages of the VR3 too much to pass up. 1...

Why should I get a computer?

I like having my VR3. Was able to clear my deco 10 minutes before my buddy who was using vplanner. Of course I stayed down with him, but it was nice to know that I was done. Of course that brings up another point. Your dive computer is not as useful when your buddy is using something...

Recreational "deep diver" Specialty + Deco?

I was certified in an IANTD course for deep air diving, advanced nitrox diving and "recreational" trimix to do decompression. However, this combo is not really a recreational course as it involved doubles, deco bottles, lotsa regulators, a bp/w etc. Also, the depth was beyond the recreational...

    Just recieved GREAT news

I would consider starting your new dive buddy out with a fish mobile above the crib and a stuffed animal made from neoprene. You may want an aquarium in the room to serve as a night light. Remember, its never too early to spark an interest in diving. Congrats.

    WHAT do you bother logging?

i got out of the habit of logging dives blindly. I will however, record interesting features of a dive / depth/ equipment configurations/ environmental conditions etc. if I feel the need for me. I don't usually take my log book with me on vacation, but sometimes write down on pieces of scrap...

Breathing directly from a tank at depth

Years ago, the summer camp that I attended made us stem breathe - and we were just kids. Really nothing to it. You cup your hand over the stem and turn the valve to get enough air. Do not make a seal with the stem.

    Oxycheq wing for double

I have a 50 lb double bladder. It has an outer shell and two bladders inside. I only use one, but if for some reason it broke and I was in steel doubles, I have a second bladder and inflator for extra safety. Of course if I were wearing a drysuit, this would not be necessary.

    Questions from "those considering"

I've coughed and sneezed underwater. I just kept my regulator in my mouth and kept breathing normally. I did have to let some water into my mask and then clear it out - one of the first things you learn how to do in a scuba class. For some basic info, you might want to check out the...

    Oxycheq wing for double

Maybe a double bladder if you are using a wetsuit? Oxycheq makes these as well.
