I expect to see more and more DIN valves beyond just Europe and technical divers. I do think rebreathers will be in much greater abundance, but I just don't see them becoming standard for the typical once every two years in Cozumel vacation diver.
Some things also go in cycles. When I...
Perhaps technical diving in general should be added. For what its worth, I've gone as far as rescue on the recreational route and have a bp/w but also have taken technical classes.
My thought is to use the same type of regs as you use for your back gas. If you have a pile of them in your dive bag and you need a spare part you know that what you are using is compatible.
Ideally you will have an 02 cleaned reg, but if you don't just remember to turn your deco tank on...
1. I have one Zeagle envoy deluxe as a recreational setup for my wife or another buddy.
2. I have one Zeagle envoy deluxe as a recreational setup for myself.
3. I have one Zeagle envoy deluxe as a deco reg.
4. I have one Zeagle envoy deluxe for my left post on my technical setup.
5...
Someone asked how to control buoyancy when a diver such as I cat naps during a deco stop. First I set my buoyancy to neutral and try to make my shallow stop at 20' if possible to avoid swells. This certainly helps in maintaining buoyancy.
If I am on an anchor line I tend to hold on with my...
The stabilizing jacket - aka the normal bc is just fine and is what most divers use during classes. It keeps you up and horizontal when on the surface with ease and is used by most instructors when teaching open water classes. It actually makes you a little less stable during the dive as the...
On a long stop I tend to catnap if there is nothing to see.. If there is something to see then I watch. One time I was on a 25 minute stop and saw a jack fighting with a stingray for a particular spot of sand for some reason.
The LDS with whom I train told me that they had a lot of trouble with the LDS owner's sentinel rebreather when he was taking in to grand cayman from Houston. Granted he was probably one of the first people in the United states with that rebreather. I hear that he now has a few dive stickers on...
I use my LDS mainly for travel and training. They don't keep a lot of inventory in stock- except for "do-dads" and whatnot. On the other hand they teach about everything in the book from SASY kid diving to expedition trimix using rebreathers.
I had another thought. Make them spend their hard earned money on expensive wrist mount computers. I have a 1500 dollar VR3 and guarantee you that I always know where it is. :crafty:
Ditto on what everyone else said. However, if your strap was a 1" strap, you may consider a 2" strap as there is less of an ability for it to make you feel "violated".
I understand that you don't want the new divers to loose their computers and in that sense an air integrated or console computer would be a good choice as it is probably harder to loose a big object (regulator with console) than a smaller object with all the gear that your new divers will need...
I'm sure this is going to expose my ignorance of double hose regulators.
Has anyone here ever put a double hose reg like a DA aquamaster on the left post and around the neck instead of a bungeed reg around the neck? Aside from the possible need for asymmetric hose lengths, is this a bad...
I'd like to point out that you, the OP, sucks because he has gone diving on the oriskany and seen a whale shark while I haven't.
Kidding of course. There are many dives that you will go on and be amazed, even after your whale shark oriskany dive.
Regarding depth, I believe the 60'...
There are some free deco planning software programs available on the internet and ideco is free if you have an iphone or ipod touch. Without going into different algorithms or all the necessary training that you really must do, these programs can be educational while sitting on land. They...
I would also suggest a zeagle. Throw a couple of trim weights on the back. The only other suggestion I would have would be to look at a zeagle escape. This is a unisex bc but since Zeagle straps are interchangeable you can fit it you your body type pretty well. My wife dives with one and she...
Last time I dove a cattle boat at a resort the deck hands pretty much helped everyone else out of their gear, but I was the only person on the boat with a bungee regulator and a 7' hose and bp/w. They ASKED if I needed assistance but pretty much left me alone except for one time when they...
Ok. I dive wet so no drysuit hose. My smb is used for drift diving. Its easier than the boat following bubbles. I currently have the open bottom kind that is supposed to trap air when inflated from the regulator. It does trap air...and water that takes a while to drain for some reason...
Hi there. First of all I'm not DIR, but since your training emphasizes failure points I thought I would ask in this section to get an opinion.
I don't currently like my smb and was considering the closed circuit smb made by either Halcyon or Hollis. This is the one that is inflated either...
My IANTD intro to tech instructor told our class that we needed redundant buoyancy. This could be in the form of a drysuit or a dual bladder wing. Another instructor I spoke with in Cozumel told me that you only need redundant buoyancy if you can't swim all of your equipment up with a wetsuit...
