I am going through some of the same things. Trying to narrow down the search for some gear. I would suggest going to the BCD section, you will find a LOT of info there as well as many very helpful board members.

please do bigfameone@yahoo.com. I have so many questions and am getting so much helpful info from the members of SB, but I am the type to ask a lot, read a lot, and do a LOT of homework. This is all so new to me that even some terms lose me.
excellent observations Kenny, thank you. Seems as tough maybe a backplate and wing are the direction to go. I am not sure what that link akes me to, it is just one pic and I can't seem to find a URL for your site. Also a good point on what one shoulf not skimp on and what one may be able to...
I will go see Dan, but last time I was in I promised I would give him a break (as I was in 3 days in a row) the guy is a real stud, been very very helpful. I am trying to get some friends to commit to the class there so I went one day, brought two friends in the next day and another the third...
thanks steve and Brewski, the pics is exactly what I needed. I have seen the plate, and a pic of the wing separately before but didn't really understand how it all worked together. It appears to have a stri of webbing that goes between your legs, is that common? Also how does one weight...
thank you both, I had been considering a custom wetsuit from liguidfit.com at 400. I will consider your suggestions. Can someone show me a pic of a backplate and wings setup, I don't fully understand what it looks like when in use I don't think. I see wings on websites for sale but am not sure...
You just became a favorite SBer my friend. I put off diving for over a decade always presuming that there just would not be gear available for me. I am also over 300 pounds and just recently discovered that wetsuits were available in large enough sizes that I might be able to do this. The BC...
I am considering a drysuit, but will have to make due with a wetsuit until I am ready to commit to a drysuit.
I am sorry, forgive me I am as noob as I can be.
What is an 85?
I am a big guy, will likely wear a xxxl or xxxxl wetsuit and am just looking at BC's for future consideration. Anyone know of any manufacturers making BIG biy sized BC's? Also any suggestions as to what I should consider as far as options?
I have worked retail in the past. I know about the crazy customer stories. Dan has been very patient, and helpful, a cool guy. Hope I have not made myself into his crazy customer that he tells horror stories about.:eyebrow:
"Hey Doug wait till I tell you about the guy that was in today...
I am actually going to be at NWSD in about 45 minutes, takeing my friend and future dive buddy in to help solidify for him the choice that I have already made. Thanks again.
Doug I will take you up on the offer as well. Thanks.
I will gladly take you up on that offer TSandM, thank you again for your help both in regards to this post here as well as the PM you sent me, all very helpful.
Well I went up to NWSD today intending to at the very least have someone in the know help me select a mask. I figured even if I didn't get my c card situation resolved soon I would still enjoy a mask that fit right. They have limited hours on Sunday and I was on the job so I had to be strategic...
Oh I am confused for sure, I have a lot more homework to do. Hell some of the terms used here are totally over my head. I appreciate all the info guess I am further from certified than I thought I was. Appreciate your recommending I ask the locals Don has certainly been beneficial.
