Sorry if this is dumb, but what do you wear under a wetuit?

I realized I am not sure what to expect to wear under a suit (if it matters I am talking a 7mm one piece.). I have seen skins etc, and read that I should not wear one with a properly fitting wetsuit. I decided boxers wasn't the answer although it seems that trunks would be kinda bulky, bunchy...

    Safe or unsafe?

I personally could not care any less if the rules are different> I am with you. I am an avid shooter and gun owner and feel like a spear gun, whether it is armed or not should be treated as though it is. Just like with a gun if you NEVER, EVER point it at anything you are not willing to destroy...

Any pros to having a black skirt?

thanks to all for the great info, I will certainly be as well informed as I can be prior to making any purchases thanks to the folks at SB. I am ready to start my classes but scheduling (and waiting for one buddy to get the time and money etc) has held us up. Its killing me to wait, so the only...

Any pros to having a black skirt?

does the area you dive in play a part? I will be diving in the Seattle area, and it is not famous for really high vis

best dive knife under 50 bucks?

thanks I saw that at NWSD the only thing I was concerned about was retention. Does me little good if it falls out of the sheath, but good point. I am not planning for any hand to fin combat (although those wolf eels are scary looking).

best dive knife under 50 bucks?

Okay, in that ballpark anyhow. I'd like to get into a nicer knife in time but as I am just starting off and there is just so much I need to buy in the way of basics I wondered if anyone could recommend me a good buy in this ballpark. Thanks folks....

Swiss army knife as a dive knife?

I have carried one in my raingear at work for a few months at a time and it rusted pretty good, and thats just rainwater that got into my pocket. I don't think it would be a good choice for diving.

South sound, pacific northwest says hello

Dirka, TSandM ^ has been very helpful to me, she has wonderful info to share. Pay attention when you see her, and for giggles read her dive journal. A hoot for sure. When you get a chance stop by the shop that was filling your paintball tanks and say howdy to Amy there (on here she is...

South sound, pacific northwest says hello

what up dude. Thanks for the map today, if you had not given it to me I'd be cruising around Crystal Mountain trying to figure out what went wrong. Glad you joined the board, you will find the folks here are super friendly, super helpful, and not at all judgmental when you ask what you may...

Do you mind helping a noob select gear for the PNW?

VooDooGasMan I didn't mean to sound broke. Money for the classes is not an issue, its just that I have collected way too many pairs of retro and old nikes over the years and most just sit in my closet. Selling some to put toward gear. I got a good (decent?) job and am just expecting SCUBA to be...

Any pros to having a black skirt?

wow folks lots of good info, had not thought of any of that well except for the one thing that would be a selling point for me as I am as new a scuba diver as I can be (read that not yet cert'ed) rakkis nailed it, they do look much cooler. I think they look like some kind of Ninja, Commando or...

Any pros to having a black skirt?

on a mask of course. I tried on a clear mask and thought the ambient light would be a plus not to mention it may provide minimal (but some) peripheral vision. So my question is am I missing something? Why wouldn't everyone use a clear mask? Is there a pro I am not seeing?

Do you mind helping a noob select gear for the PNW?

I am planning an excursion to check out a2z actually as Amy has been very helpful. I am a little suprized at how many dive shops there are around that I was unaware of. I seem to just keep running into threm. NWSD, Lighthouse, UWS, one on 15th and about 7oth or so in Ballard (were closed the one...

So what the heck is a semi dry suit?

wow this hobby takes a LOT of homework, I have asked and had so many great answers and yet I don't know if I know anymore today than I did a few weeks ago. I am so confused about so much, I can only imagine how hard this all would have been to figure out without all the great help here on SB...

Curious about what I should look for in a basic watch?

I am getting certified and need a basic watch. I don't even wear one at all right now and would like a simple inexpensive watch to get me by. I would prefer one that could be worn regularly and would like to try and stay in the 100-150 dollar range (or less). I don't even know what I should look...

    Wet Suits

thanks guys I have been seiously considering this 7mm HERE. Glad to see folks are impressed, the price seems great. I am ONLY concerned now that if I order to fit my body then it will likely be cut to someone about 2-3 inches taller than I am and I wonder how much that will matter.

So what the heck is a semi dry suit?

I mean it seems like a wet suit allows you to get wet, a dry suit keeps you dry and a semi dry suit is in essence a wetsuit with dry suit seals. I am not sure then if the only difeerence between the semi dry and a dry suit the ability to fill it with air? If that is it, then why is a dry suit 2x...
