St. Claire River at Port Huron, Michigan usually has pretty good vis for most of the dive but the current runs really hard.

Another thing I do before I trim seals is to "prestretch" them over a coffee can in the neck and soda (pop for you northerners) can for a day or two.

You do not need a drysuit certification to buy a dry suit! Is it recommended? Absolutley! I said earlier, the LDS I instruct for throws in the dry suit specialty when you buy your suit from them. If an LDS will not sell you a dry suit go somewhere else as it seems they have enough business...

Just to add a little to this, you may want to take a medical form, (signed by your Dr.), I've had several occassions where students I referred couldn't get certified even though they didn't need the Dr's release. I now recommend all my students take one with them.
