How about in the rest of he world? In general would this have helped in other places?

LIfe Threatening Dive Experience - Fiji

I'm not familiar with the technology. Why wouldn't the new lifeline helped here? I assumed sending out a mayday distress signal would have got some boat's attention even if it wasn't the original with the ear buds.

LIfe Threatening Dive Experience - Fiji

Isn't the new Nautilus Lifeline basically a PLB in a canister? There's no more VHF radio function it's just a single button mayday/distress signal.

Would taking aspirin help to guard against DCS?

^ that's not true. You do not form clots in your extremities when you have normal vasoconstriction. That would be part of frostbite and reperfusion syndrome. Normal dives or being out in the cold normally does not cause a bunch of platelets to clot in your fingers/toes. I will not comment on if...

LIfe Threatening Dive Experience - Fiji

I keep reading about these scenarios in books and on here. How many people are carrying a Nautilus Lifeline? I've been waiting to grab one but the more I read about these lost at sea episodes the closer I'm getting to pulling the trigger.

    VIP sticker/ID #'s

Makes a lot more sense. I guess at least with PSI-PCI you have an actual inspector # so there's some way to verify your training if somewhere starts to push you on it. Do any of the other places that "train/certify" you to do VIP give you a #? Or are you just slapping on random VIP stickers you...

    VIP sticker/ID #'s

TDI may have changed it. All their website links take me to this page eventually if I follow them to sign up: VIP Inspector | SDI | TDI | ERDI which states it expires in 3 years. Although it seems cheap.

    VIP sticker/ID #'s

I didn't realize that TDI had a course as well. I'll have to look into it thanks. I have 6 tanks total and will probably be picking up another 2 this summer so it ends up being worth it for me. I also like to do everything myself so I want to learn how to do it properly and do it myself anyways...

    VIP sticker/ID #'s

Thanks for all the information. Learning a lot from this. If I want to VIP my own tanks, and lets pretend I've been trained to do it properly by some dive shop (pretend I previously worked for one or something but no longer do), would taking a course like the PSI-PCI VIP course allow me the...

    VIP sticker/ID #'s

Question: I don't know anything about visual inspections on tanks/how they are done and the stickers certifying the tanks have been inspected. I own a few tanks that have been VIP'd by different shops. I noticed some of the stickers on the tanks have a # on them (I'm assuming some kind of...

switching from AL tank to Steel Tank

In general, it's about 5# Check out the tank you use here compared the the tank you are planning on getting: http://www.indianvalleyscuba.com/services%20page/Tank%20Inspection/information/CYLINDER%20SPECIFICATIONS.pdf It tends to be about a 5lb difference between them and you can actually...

    Mask TOO close to face

Have you tried to blow some air in the mask through your nose after you descend to try to equalize the squeeze?

Does 100% O2 on deco provide a greater benefit than other deco mixes?

^^^^ This here. It's a theoretical reason to keep your stop on 100% at 18-20ft rather than ascend to 10ft. Can't do this with a leaner mix. Deco for divers by Powell has some more information about this specifically.

The Local Dive Shop and Their Advantage

As a posted in a similar thread, the dive shop needs to build a sense of community. They need to be the people you dive with for fun, get you to come out diving with them locally, and make you want to stop in the shop and just say "Hi" because they make you feel welcome and like they want to...

    The changing Scuba Industry

Couldn't agree with this more. I found it very surprising as well that the instructors, DMs, and staff in my local LDS never wanted to go out and dive. They were only interested in destination diving or teaching a class. I had to go way out of my way to find the diving community around here...

    Has DRIS jumped ship?

Looking at the video it looks like you guys are working your butts off. I'm wondering if people don't realize you are mainly a brick-and-mortar store with an online section that allows the rest of the country access to the wide variety of brands you offer. Comparing you to the online only large...

    Has DRIS jumped ship?

I ordered a lot from them last year. I too have noticed over the last few months shipping has slowed immensely. Seems to take weeks to get anything as everything is "out of stock" which you only find out by email after you place the order. DGX seems to have the same prices and much much faster...

    Braces and Long Hair Advice

In terms of the invisalign - I used to have it, and I still wear my retainers at night/sometimes throughout the day I've tried diving with the retainer in before. It just feels weird/uncomfortable trying to seal your mouth around the reg's mouthpiece. I felt like my mouth wasn't sitting on...

    Practice using a pony bottle

What captain swoop said. Practice using it is practice using it. Get comfortable deploying it and stowing it in many different scenarios as you've described. Safety stop, ascent, on the bottom to sim OOA, etc. Practice taking the tank off and giving it to someone else, and getting it back. Once...
