What Happened to "Sinkodemayo" in Miami?

Likely rubble by now - we dive (and live) in Miami - remember something about it, but never dove it. Kinda like the Rolls Royce they sunk off Palm Beach some years back - sounds cool, but once you are down there, its a 10 min dive. ("you see it - now what??") LOTS better sites and some...

Where to stay in the keys?

Let me suggest some operators; communicate with them and ask what deals they have with hotels, etc - its the diving thats important, and all have tie in's w/ places to stay - if your budget is $250/night you should be able to find lodging for quite a bit less; really no place in the upper Keys...

Vis is great here in Jacksonville!

You know....that's exactly what I was thinking when I saw the title of the thread! I'm diving 31 years, I'm not into "hype" - but I can't get the image of migrating great whites off Jacksonville out of my mind. Before anyone takes any shots - yes, I know we are much more likely to be killed...

Spiegel Grove and area wreck advice

When the SG was first sunk, we went out 4 times and were unable to dive it due to the current - so I hear you. Its an excellent wreck. Another suggestion you might want to consider is asking for a "hot drop" - which means the boat drops you upcurrent and you drift into the wreck. As...

Any advice for first timers on Vandenberg/Spiegel Grove next week?

I suspect you are going to be fine - the Andrea Doria its not! Both very good dives; see if you can get a charter doing 2 dives on each vs the wreck and another site (like a shallow reef) - they are both too big to see on a single dive, especially if you are on air. Good advice from (mostly)...

    Diving in Late December?

Cuban's - we have plenty..... :rofl3: Oh, you mean cigars - any you find are highly likely to be fake - not worth it - plenty of other great (legal) cigar options available

    Diving in Late December?

You know Hemmingway was in Key West - 150 miles from KL and Mia, right? (diving much better other areas than KW BTW) If you are into caverns FL has the some of the best fresh water diving anywhere - Ginnie Springs, Blue Springs, many others - but I'm the wrong guy to ask b/c its not my thing...

    Key Largo area info

Gotta be much more than that one shop (this is Christmas, New Years, July 4th, and Presidents Day all rolled into one for dive shops, res't. and motels in the Keys) - would not surprise me if all of them offered lobster trips during Mini Season So I suspect you are incorrect, htn123 - But I...

    Diving in Late December?

Debby makes some good points as always - I'll add some info: That time of year is iffy due to the wind that can accompany cold fronts that come down from up north during the winter - while they don't bring snow, they can ruin diving if the wind blows strong enough - no way to tell right now...

    Shark Bite LBTS

Rick Sanchez and Sally Fitz I'm going to open my veins.........:shakehead::shakehead::shakehead: (no truth to the rumor they both had multiple orgasims while reporting during Hurricane Andrew - but I did notice they were never shown (on camera) below the waist - and speaking of waste...

Whats the saying....you can lead a horse to water......
  15. Jupiter31

    ...key west??

As to the 1st paragraph, read Debby's post - then read it again - your renting a boat is a really bad idea, not to mention unnecessary and costly - go on a charter; make life easy. Re shore diving - you would think different (differently??) because these are islands after all, but the fact is...

    ...key west??

No - the reefs (and wrecks for that matter) in the Keys are 5 - 6 miles offshore - the snorkeling near shore is sand and grass - not recommended. Also - re KW - great town; lots of fun; neat, unique place - but the diving is waaaay better other places, specifically Key Largo and Islamorada.

Recommendation for Advanced Open Water Training

You have gotten some great recommendations - I know Kevin and he is a fantastic guy - Walter's recommendation also looks super qualified. PS I hope you did not choose your ScubaBoard name based upon the brand of boat you have - that's really tacky :shakehead: Seriously, welcome to SB! And...

    dive charters for sale?

Great point Debby The majority of those I know (and have known in the industry over the past 30+ years) who got into the industry b/c they loved to dive fould to a person they did it less once it became a business. Kind of the opposite of Dennis Hof - google him if you don't know who he is -...

    dive charters for sale?

I have found that the quickest way to turn something you love into something you don't is make it your lifes work - that said, what you might consider is pick a place you like to dive, come on down, dive with them, and perhaps make an offer. Business that are not for sale often are (as my...
