    3, 5, or 7mm in the Keys?

5 or 7 depending how cold you get, how chilly the water is and how long you are going to be in the water - also how cold the air temp is; today was very nice; earlier in the week it was cold, even in Key Largo - like in the 40's at night, and 60's during the day - which for us is frigid.

    Diving in the keys

The Op is looking for good diving - Lots better diving other places vs Key West - and if there is a front coming through that reaches the Keys - it may be a little warmer in KW and a little calmer, but its still going to he rough. KW is a fantastic place to visit; lots to see and it has a...

    Cave/cavern diving

I dunno, Pete - I was always under the impression that the most important piece of equipment in getting Cave (vs Cavern) certified was the American Express Gold Card!

    Cave/cavern diving

Cavern yes - cave no I know of no instructor that will take an open water certified diver into a cave - period. And regardless, its dangerous, no matter how many instructors you could be with. Cave certification is a rigorous, long, and expensive proposition - many open water divers have...

    Key Largo Conditions question

Water temps should be in the mid 70's - given what you are accustomed to, a 3mm should be OK - but if you plan to be in the water for a long time, and you have a 5mm, and you have room - take it. It is very cold for us now (50's, low 60's air temp), but the weekend should warm up - note I've...

Florida Dive Show: Are You Gonna Be There?

Agree about the lectures (and the price of admission!) - this is our 3rd or 4th time attending - was a little disappointed at the amount of vendors exhibiting but figure its due to the economy. I always find it a worthwhile way to spend a day - and the lectures, this year especially, were...

Info on West Palm Beach area diving in January

Boy, you could start a fight over that question! But its a good one with many different opinions - alco they are both wonderful, so you really can't go wrong in either place. They are excellent areas and well worth diving - Boynton's sights are a little closer in - the reef line runs parallel...

Visiting Juno Beach area over Xmas

All the diving in PB is drift - you go w/ the current and when you surface, the boat comes to you, picks you up and you climb aboard - no navi skills are really needed. You can expect ledges, and in the West palm area, some very beautiful reefs. You just drift along with the current, at about...

Key Largo weather tomorrow and Friday

Gotta agree - just 'cause you can does not mean you should - remember, we are not commercial divers - this is supposted to be fun. Few more miserable experiences than being out in 5-8' seas - plus, its going to be chilly - not to mention the surge those seas are likely to cause given the...

Florida Keys Weather website. Inside and out side the reef?

Pretty much - its not a real dramatic difference, but the reef does block - as well as being closer to shore - some of the wave action. If they are calling for 4 - 6 offshore, its unlikely to be 1 - 3 "inside the reef" OTOH, a near shore forecast is more difficult to predict - it could be 5...

    Fresh Water Diving in Winter

You are wise to have a back up plan as the weather that time of year is iffy - you do stand a chance of getting blown out (opposite is also true, but you stand a better chance that time of year vs June - August). Sportx made some great suggestions - another one, closer to south FL is Blue...

Info on West Palm Beach area diving in January

    1. Many operate year round, weather permitting - see below - in no particular order (google and check the web sites): "The Wetter the Better" "Scuba Club of the Palm Beaches" (will do 1 tank dives and is a great option for new divers, which your profile indicates) "Jim Abernethy" You can...

Dive w/ Conch Republic - stay at Marriott?

Everything in life is a trade - like you, I'd use the hotel points vs paying hard dollars for a room - Keys are expensive. The drive is a little long, but pleasant; assuming no accidents, in the AM the traffic is very manageable - no brainer for me - if I can get my hotel paid for in the...

    Key West in December

I guess I'm looking for someone to say "a trip to Key West will be GREAT in December!" OK - I'll say it - KW is a great place; one of the most unique areas in the USA, and well worth a visit - and December can be nice (can also be windy and undiveable due to cold fronts, although it very...

The Scuba Club, West Palm Beach

Franks........ Bringing back lots of memories - The club started as the "Norine Rouse Scuba Club" - was the subject of many articles in the old "Skindiver" mag (Terrible mag :shakehead: - but nice, fairly accurate - something they were not known for - articles about Norine and the club)...
