    Jupiter Surface Intervals

I've had well over 100 dives with Jupiter Dive Center and 6 with Emerald - both are excellent operations IMO, although Emerald does cater a little more to hunters. Re surface intervals, if you are on air, you will have a 60 min surface interval plus w/ JDC, b/c your bottom time on air is 25 -...

Biscayne National Park - Mooring Buoys workshop

Hi Lisa I plan to attend the one in Coral Gables - says the presentation will start at 6:30 - any reason to get there at 6:00? Look forward to seeing you if you are going to be in CG! If not - thanks for posting this! Rob

Why no mooring buoys on wrecks?

Well, sure - I found 2 last year - In fact, Deepstops from time to time conducts seminars on the use of lift bags, and lift bag technology (sorry, inside joke, but he is really good at using the lift bag, which should be a part of almost every divers eq - really handy piece of gear and you...

Why no mooring buoys on wrecks?

No, all in one piece - we have a folding grapnel, but have had much more success using the other type - I would say don't waste your time and money w/ the folding type.

Why no mooring buoys on wrecks?

If that, Tom : ( That's why I want to see some buoys, on some wrecks 10 - 15' below, like on the Eagle Would not prevent a ship from pulling them up, but would help with the sometimes nutty boaters down here b/c few small or medium sized boats draw 10 or 15'

    South Florida diving..

Its only been about 24 hours since your first post - and a lot of the "regular" posters have been busy this week w/ lobster miniseason. No need to get "chippy" You also could have used the "Search" function (which should probably be eliminated since so few actually use it) and be prepared...

Why no mooring buoys on wrecks?

I think its much more your 2nd paragraph than the first There also does not seem to be any support for mooring buoys on wrecks from the commercial dive op's - some reefs, sure, but not the wrecks

Why no mooring buoys on wrecks?

Only use a grapnel - while its possible with a danforth type, I think you stand a better chance of hooking it from the surface with a grapnel - let it hit the wreck, and you can feel it bumping along and feel when it actually hooks. Ours is 12 lbs (weighs more w/ the chain), but feels like...

Why no mooring buoys on wrecks?

I go back and forth on this topic, as we have been diving the wrecks off Miami since the mid 1980's. And frankly, not to break my arm patting myself on the back, we have gotten pretty good at hooking them from the boat, and if that does not work, taking the anchor down and hooking it that way...

    Dry Tortugas day dive trip

Its a long haul - the good news is there are a number of operators offering diving in the genearal area (Cay Sal) - bad news is they are multi day live aboards. As you correctly point out the trips to Ft Jefferson are for snorkeling - its a neat place to see and filled with history - worth a...

Where to stay in the keys?

Be prepared to be annoyed a lot if you become a regular poster, which we hope you do :D:rofl3: Going off topic on this board is a very regular happening!

What Happened to "Sinkodemayo" in Miami?

Its not a problem, just know you are going to have a shorter dive - 25 - 30 min's vs 40 - 45 for the NITROX certified - its the other reasons I mentioned you need to be comfortable with.

Where to stay in the keys?

Wow.... You mean they are not - and you have to check the mix  I was always taught to just estimate and put the estimated mix into my computer and just dive it - NOT :rofl3::rofl3::rofl3:

    Diver drifts 3 miles

I agree that its always the individual who has to make a decision on any dive. However...... To cut to the chase, I have been on more charters than I can think of where the captain/DM - in essence the charter operator - cancelled the dive and we went to another site - often because he felt...

    Diver drifts 3 miles

Sometimes the pocketbook wins This has been the worst weather I've seen in 30+ years in FL - agree that a hot drop might have made more sense

Where to stay in the keys?

Or even a definition! :shakehead::rofl3: I know we are an inital driven society, but that one totally escaped me, and I suspect many others! Thanks Debby! :D

RFI Best Snorkel Operators Miami to South Key Largo

Agree w/ Dennis - you are unlikely to be able to get out during the times indicated due to the "Tropical Depression" - C'mon, Jeff - its not like every station has not talked about it! (don't you miss the days when Rick Sanchez and Sally Fitz went into orgasm over every thunder storm from...

What Happened to "Sinkodemayo" in Miami?

The beach in Jupiter.....no (Its Jupiter, BTW, not Jupiter Beach - one of the few communities in FL that has not added the moniker "Beach" to its name) :shakehead: You may be asking the wrong guy, b/c when it comes to Jupiter I am very biased towards the place - but - Jupiter IMO is the best...
