    Tipping

Different people need different levels of service. You'll have the just need a ride out and back guys and on the same trip have people that need you to do everything but the dive for them. Five a tank would be the need a ride guy. 20 wouldn't be out of the park for someone that needs everything...

    Stuart Beach fatal attack

They had some aerial video on the news the other night showing numerous sharks just off shore somewhere on the Atlantic coast of Fl. Media saying they were Tiger sharks. Saw this one on the news this morning. Seems kind of early for the bait fish thing.

How much would you pay for a Steel Tank

You have to be careful with the old 72's. Some places have a problem filling them. When I worked in the Keys, they wouldn't fill ANY steel tanks. Now they have a problem filling older ones and even some Alum. I have one over 30 years old with a J valve that still passes, just had to strip off...

    replacement lenses

Most of the time there is a little plastic tool that is used to gently pry off the outer plastic ring that keeps the lens in place. Some masks are harder than others to get this off without cracking it. Good luck.

Need Advice on Buying Used Steel Tanks

If they were made in 2000, they were due for hydro in 2005 and 2010. Have the seller get them hydroed and VIP. They pass, good to go. I have one steel tank left from the 60's, still passes, still in use.

Why can't you make a living as an Instructor?

Widget has some good points. As hard a pill as it is to swallow, computer skills and compressor repair will bring some of the highest dollars in the business. These skills are valued and so are paid as such. I was once told I was paid with sunshine and should be paying them to do the job. Resort...

Suunto Gekko Computer or Apeks Quantum Dive Computer

Used the Gekko for rental. Never had a problem, easy to use, easy to read, pretty much bomb proof. Priced many times, as low as a good dive watch. A great starter computer.

    wrist or console computer

From personal observation, 2-3 dives a week someone will leave a wrist mount on the camera table when they jump in and do the dive without it or come back for it 10 minutes into the dive. The user replaceable battery situation causes 3-4 flooded computers a year and is used way to much to reset...

Dumbest things you've seen a newbie diver do

Jump in with sun glasses on instead of mask, mask on fore head, snork. in not reg., tank not on, tank not full, reg. not hooked to tank, jump in with no fins, jump in with dry suit zipper not zipped. The list goes on and on and on. The sad part is more often than not, these were " experienced"...

    Anchoring your boat

More is better, if it can break, it will and leave a qualified person on station are your best pieces of advice. The longer you're around boats the more this will become very evident.

    wetsuit thickness to water temp

Also think about the suits compression at depth. A 5mm won't be a 5mm at 100ft.

I'm not concerned. . .but should I be?

Sounds like you touched something. Good judgement in all cases will serve you well, especially in diving.

    "Athletic fit" Suit Recommendations

Look at the Body Glove sizing. These guys started out for surfer types, bigger in the arms, shoulders and chest, smaller waist and legs. More of a V body type.

Packing for first dive trip -- what am we missing?

You might consider some chewable pepto tabs. It's no fun sitting out the second half of the week, if you know what I mean.
