    practice video

Looking good Nick! I think someone already mentioned your bag shoot in another forum so I wont go there. The only thing I could critique is how spastic you are. I got tired watching you :p Forget the skills for a while, just work on staying in one spot without moving whatsoever. Happy feet...

    DIR Forum

You are so wrong. There have been so many divers on these forums who go and take a Fundies or essentials class, switch to another agency for deco training and then start applying what they think they know about DIR deco diving to their diving, some with predictable results. I think it's fair...

    DIR Forum

Let me shorten that for you Trace; "Do guys like me bother posting or quit participating in DIR forums where the climate seems to be one that frowns upon debate and is just waiting for Godot to arrive with the latest memo?" Yes we like you posting provided you answer a DIR question with DIR...

    Gas Planning Discussion

it would better describe the current state of this forum unfortunately. Then you can freely tell us all about your methods without hearing a single peep from me :)

    DIR Forum

Can we just rename the DIR forum to "i maybe took a DIR class but I don't actually dive with a GUE/UTD approach so i'm going to tell you about my way of diving instead" forum? It would probably be more accurate that way.

    Gas Planning Discussion

What does any of that have to do with DIR and why are you attempting to answer a question about how a DIR diver does something? It literally seems like every thread in the DIR forum is hijacked by someone that does not apply DIR concepts or worse thinks he does.

    Gas Planning Discussion

He asked for the DIR approach to calculating min gas (rock bottom) for a deco dive. IMO DIR means GUE or UTD approach but of course that is up for debate. Honestly throwing out the deep stop ascent rate is what scares me in your approach but I'm not going quibble. 30ft per min was the norm in...

    Gas Planning Discussion

Ummm this is the DIR forum.... In GUE and I imagine UTD Min Gas is Min Gas you don't throw out deep stop ascent rates when calculating Min Gas. Why you would neglect deep stops is beyond me but Im not going to question another agencies training. From a GUE stand point your time is off by...

Using an SCR range for gas planning

Not sure what Kev's RB calculation is based on but the GUE standard for deco dives is as follows: Old Tech 1 and current Tech 2: Assumed SAC rate of 1cft per min (up for tweaking based on team makeup) 1 minute at depth for emergency 30ft/min to first deep stop at 75% of depth 10ft/min to gas...

Using an SCR range for gas planning

You are good at math, I suck at math. :D Math on the fly for me is a disaster waiting to happen. Trust me, its safer for me to memorize a simple range then do math underwater no matter how easy it is. On the fly can get some people into trouble. Id rather do all the heavy lifting before the...

Using an SCR range for gas planning

lol, the whole point of this thread is how to simplify gas management and gas planning. This notion of exact math no matter what you are calculating is worthless in the real world of scuba diving. Deco, gas consumption, and bottom time cannot be calculated to an exact number. Our bodies are...

Using an SCR range for gas planning

I think you are losing sight of the forest from all the trees.

Using an SCR range for gas planning

:D Yup, thats why i took it a step further and even did the scuba math ahead of time and added simple tables to my wet notes. If someone took away my wet notes id be lost. Probably not good. I hate math in any form hehe.

Interesting, thanks Gene for the reference. Thal, you ever thought of being screened?

    Isolator knob position

Nah im like gumby. Ask me again when I get back in a drysuit. Probably different answer then. Did the same thing with a wreck in Hawaii. I have no idea how I managed not shear off my isolator. It's is a risk no doubt.... dangit guess i need to get use to that stupid isolator digging into...

I like the "stroke, you are going to die" knob position as well. Big head and all.

    Alternative to Chamber?

I thought the issue was only with saturation divers that spend hours and hours in a helium enriched environment during decompression? Is that not the case?

    Alternative to Chamber?

I would have agreed with this until my Tech 1 instructor told me about their IWR protocol when doing dive excursions in the middle of no where. They practice it and have done it I think he said twice for slight symptoms. Probably outside of Europe and the US its more common then we think.

    In Water Recompression?

100 ft doesnt make much sense seeing as how the pressure change is less the deeper you go. Seems like 20 or 30ft inwater on o2 would give you plenty of recompression with an ideal o2 window. My Tech 1 instructor talked about how they did in water recompression for dive excursions out in the...

Using an SCR range for gas planning

Very true but I wasn't trying to show the downsides to a high SCR. Just wanted to highlight a way for newer DIR divers to start thinking about gas management and planning. I should have done this for recreational ranges to keep the "tech" part of it from distracting from my intent. :D Mark
