SAC is generally expressed in cubic feet since PSI is dependent on tank type.
Here is a SAC calculator to use SAC Calculator or you can use a tank factor scuba math to convert between PSI and cuft.
Tank factor math for single aluminum 80 to convert PSI to cuft SAC = PSI per minute ÷ 100 *...
We may have a different definition of buoyancy control but probably not. The majority of tourist divers I saw while living in Hawaii had virtually no buoyancy control. So sad :depressed:
A recreational diver would be better severed working on in water comfort and buoyancy control to insure they don't have an in water accident and not sweating over whether deep stops or what computer computes the safest schedule in order to avoid DCS.
Were all the people you've seen with...
That's kind of my point. Some people dont like the term undeserved hit thinking that if they follow the rules they will be ok. Bottom line there are too many variables to ever say with 100% certain that if you only stay down so long or ascend no faster then X you wont get a DCS.
Honestly...
Might want to remember that Richard Pyle came up with his deep stops for dives in the 300ft range. Pyle stops have no place in a discussion on recreational deep stops.
Also, he posted in this thread The Deco Stop about where he is wondering if deep stops doesn't work when he does high activity...
Is there any research to support the notion that adding more "conservatism" actually decreases DCI risks? Has the rate of divers getting DCI gone down since more conservatism has been added through the years? I seem to recall reading a study about ascent rates being a bigger factor then diving...
Interesting point about the increased time for CCR divers. A dive buddy of mine in Hawaii went to diving a CCR and he started doing 3 hour solo shore dives to a wreck at 120'. It was a bit jaw dropping hearing him describe it knowing his background and his in water skills.
To the point about...
I rarely venture out from the DIR section with a DIR opinion with the exceptions of posts from divers continuing to misinform about outdated and unsafe practices like deep air. The only reason why I do venture out is in the hope of highlighting the potential dangers of said practices to newer...
Personally I really dive helium as a social status symbol. I love rubbing my wealth in the face of all you low class urchins. Of course I could save millons of $ diving air but then how else will I stand out from the riff raff on a dive boat? I will gladly continue to pay $100 a cuft for helium.
Yeah I tend to agree but it will be interesting to see what happens now that rebreathers are showing up more and more on aggressive recreational dives. The oriskany and vandenberg deaths makes me wonder if this is foreshadowing things to come or if it's just an anomaly.
I also think that the...
I think hydrox is highly unstable with oxygen levels above 4% (or there about) in high pressures like a scuba tank. I hear its great if you want to say do a dive to 1500 feet and dont wont to worry about HPNS. I dont think you will see many Hydrox labels on scuba tanks anytime soon :)
lol not trolling at all!
Dont know enough about rebreathers to really voice an opinion but I will say the number of deaths by highly trained divers on rebreathers seems crazy. Usually, most deaths seem to be divers diving beyond their training/ability/comfort so it's suprising when you read...
Talking out of my butt but I think you would find that a lot of GUE/UTD divers are ok with ENDs greater then 100 for easy, warm recreational dives. I think you start to see an adherence to the 100' END rule when you get to the more aggressive dives including ones that are in recreational...
Holy crap trying to use that spreadsheet made my brain explode! Is there a Video Professor CD I can order to figure that thing out?
I think I'll stick with my scuba math :D
Ahh gotcha.
My training went something like this. Move to Hawaii did GUE fundies, hooked up with a local diver that was GUE tech trained and a TDI tech instructor. Did TDI Advanced Nitrox/Deco with "discover Trimix" thrown in. Did a bunch of dives. Did TDI Advanced Wreck. Did a bunch of...
Every diver is different in the rate they can learn but I would strongly recommend against doing an all in one course unless it is a mentor based course. It could be incredible overwhelming trying to shoehorn so much in such a little bit of time and I think most tech agencies really try to...
I friend of mine is a tech diver, yoga instructor and freediving instructor. She sees such a strong correlation between yoga and freediving that she started a freediving focused yoga routine. Here is her website. Home
Not quite what you are looking for I guess but somewhat relevant.
For the...
Yes, I got married to my high school sweetheart so its all good:D
She is going through open water in the quarries so i'll probably be spending a lot of time there....cant wait ;)
I moved to ohio from hawaii just recently. Why you got to point out the depressive nature of local diving around here :mooner:
But to the defense of local diving some of the best wreck diving is in the great lakes or so i am currently telling myself.
It's really all subjective. As mundane as...
