Marine Life Teen diver bitten by shark, loses leg in Belize

A member of our trip was bit on the hand at “the Aquarium” site near Blue Hole. I wasn’t there, but as I understood it, the ruse sshark was next to him and kicked or hit it (unintentionally) and gave him a nip. He had it bandaged the rest of the week, so I don’t really know how bad it was...

Marine Life Teen diver bitten by shark, loses leg in Belize

When I was diving Turneffe Atoll in late 2021, one of the DMs had a Hawaiian sling for killing lion fish on every dive. We did not see a lot of sharks, but when one showed up on the last couple of dives, they stuffed the dead lion fish into the reef and abandoned them for the sharks to find on...

    Mesh on tanks

If your cam-band is adjusted for the mesh and you use a non-mesh tank, you will have to adjust your band. I think it is an upsell. New tanks are like new cars to some people. They're mortified at the first ding, so I can see why some people use them. Me? Nope.

What to do with a runaway BCD inflator

Dump valves will not fix a runaway overflow. To stop the loss of gas, you need to disconnect the LP inflator. A blown HP line will take forever to bleed out your tank. An LP free flow will do it much faster.

What Color Tank Should I Buy?

If you want color, go for color. Too many divers go with black everything. Safety yellow is good for visibility on the surface. Colors that are identifiable at depth (like yellow) will make it easier for your friend (and possibly enemies) to find you. My tanks are galvanized steel. MY...

New Shearwater Dive Computer - 2024!

If you are exceeding the rated depth(390'/120 m) and using a sport computer to do it, you have bigger problems than a flooded computer.

New Shearwater Dive Computer - 2024!

I bought my Peregrine specifically because of flooding. Peregrines have induction chargers. Rather than opening the battery charger or a port. I put the computer on my desk light, which a built in induction charger. You can't flood a something you never have to open. I had to replace a...

Question Am I wrong to not want a modern computer?

Most people buy a new car because they want one, not need one. I dove the same computer for ten years and it was probably ten years old when I got it. It did everything I wanted until it started glitching and I replaced it. I was never in a dive situation with it where a complete failure of...

How accurate do you guys find DiveBuddy.com for their weight calculator?

I just assumed he misspoke. Not a huge deal. Once he realized he was using the wrong weight measure the site gave him the correct weight and unit.

How accurate do you guys find DiveBuddy.com for their weight calculator?

I think he meant it gave him 10 kilos and he thought it was wrong until he had it calculated in pounds (22lbs). I've used it and found it fairly accurate. I will usually get you within spitting distance of correct. YMMV much better to start from it's suggestion than from scratch.

Unknown Tourist dead, Dive Master ill - Ambergris Caye, Belize

The safety stop is a pretty low priority in an emergency. In the absence of other information, I would skip it. If the distressed diver is going to pass out, it is better to do it on the surface. If they are breathing contaminated air, they are better off on the surface, dumping weights, blow...

    Go Pro or ?

When filming a dive, spend a lot of time and focus on keeping the camera still. You can get rid of some of the shake with software in the camera or in the editing process, but getting a smooth tracking of a diver or a fish takes lots of practice. Most cameras have a raw recording mode where...

I've been using the SJCams for years. Very inexpensive, easy to use. I have an SJ 4000 and a 5000. Both are darn near indestructible. I haven't found filter that work for them, though. This is from the SJ5000

Question Easily accessible shore dives in South Florida

I thought your getting bent out of shape was uncalled for. I had the same reaction, shore diving can be much more taxing than a boat dive. Someone gave you a thoughtful reply and you got on their case about it. You can just say thank you and ignore it. I took a little more time to explain...
