Broken air inflator at the beginning of dive

For the record, we own our own equipment and this BC was serviced in June. We did go on a dive trip in June where he used the same BC. I wouldn't have thought it would need servicing again so soon though. It is a Mares BC and he had this exact issue with his other Mares BC so as soon as it...

Broken air inflator at the beginning of dive

We just got back from a week at Scuba Club Cozumel (had a great time). On our very first dive my husband couldn't descend. I was far enough away that I couldn't quite understand why he wasn't descending - and the guy on the dive boat was holding up weights in case he was just underweighted. My...

    Doc Deep dies during dive.

Maybe I missed it, but I haven't seen much discussion about the psychology of 'group think'. It contributed to the Challenger and Columbia disasters. People get drawn into the idea that this project must happen, and that any naysayers aren't 'team players' or that they lack the guts to see it...

What jewelry do you wear while diving?

Just for fun, I bought a cubic zirconia ring to wear on vacation. I've never had it on while diving - I suspect that the salt might just eat through whatever metal it's made of! But it's fun to have to wear out of the water! A little fake bling bling. :D

Around 1500 people a year win at least $1million playing the Lotto in America alone.

Picky, picky, picky! For the record, I'm not a statistic for either winning the lotto or shark bites. :)

First real boat dive coming up – Log questions…

When my husband and I first started diving we wouldn't log anything while on the boat (unless we wanted to quickly write down what fish/critter we saw on a dive), and then we would take our log books and computers to dinner in the evening and write everything down. It was SO much fun! We became...

Why the dislike of air integrated computers?

My husband and I both got the Oceanic HUD Mask. His wouldn't sync consistently. We joked that there must be some metal in his head. He returned it and got another Oceanic AI computer and likes it. I love my mask. I like the fact that I don't have to look down to see anything- my ATR, depth, air...

    Red Filter for DC1400

I think I'm going to have to experiment and see what works. We're going on the Juliet next week so I'll have plenty of opportunities to try different configurations. Until I started reading this board I really didn't know there was a WB function on the camera. Well, that's not entirely true -...

    Red Filter for DC1400

I’ll walk you through how I do it and see if it helps. Hit the Menu button and choose Easy Setup. Toggle over to Underwater (white balance isn’t available as an option to change unless you’re in Underwater mode). Choose your configuration – mind is the second one over – the camera with a...

    Red Filter for DC1400

Wow - I just looked at some of your pictures and I'm inspired! Really taken with a DC1400 huh?! I will continue to work at it. (I started to say 'try', but Yoda says "Do or do not. There is no try."!) ;)

    Red Filter for DC1400

Ok. These are from a recent trip to Cozumel. Someone said that I need to adjust my WB - and it's a bit of a pain that this is often something I'll need to do while in the water, but it is what it is. What helpful hints can you offer? Thanks in advance. Btw, I really love getting the micro pics...

    Red Filter for DC1400

I'm sorry - I missed the response here for several days. I had only posted a picture of the menu of the DC1400 - not an underwater picture. Trying to verify that I was choosing the correct setting from the menu options. :)

    Scuba Extremists

In my opinion, it's not the extremism that is the problem - it's the delivery - and the judging (whether the writer intends to be judging or not). For instance, without being specific, on another thread someone referred to my original post as being 'a bit weird' because I guess I didn't remember...

    Scuba Extremists

I go through periods when I'm willing to post here and others when I'm not. I know that no matter what I say there will be someone who will nit-pick at what I've said. And I'm sorry to say that I have fallen into that group myself at times here. I think there's a certain amount of...

Mac or PC? Corel or what?

I have Picasa and it has gotten a bit clumsy - and I think it's because my computer is aging and either needs a good cleaning or I need a new one - but when it works, it works pretty well. I tried VividPix and didn't like it. Choosing from the nine possible versions of your picture to start the...

Mac or PC? Corel or what?

My computer is slow and will probably need to be replaced soon. I probably won't spring for a Mac, but I'm wondering if the people who are 'serious' about UW use Mac or PC, and either way, which editing software you prefer? Thanks.

Taking pictures and touching things ... thoughts

It really feels like cheating when someone with a GoPro puts that camera right in front of the subject - again, no skill necessary - and gets a great shot, while I'm left in the silt-storm of their passing through. I'm not knocking GoPro owners - I'm knocking GoPro owners who opt out of...

Taking pictures and touching things ... thoughts

I think I'll stick with the "if I can't get the shot using buoyancy adjustments then I'll forego the shot". Again, for me it's also about the challenge - and sometimes I have to mutter a "dang it" into my regulator as I watch a great shot pass by. But there will always be more dives to try again...

    Your biggest "lessons learned"

I whole heartedly agree with everything here. I'll add that when you take a light you reduce the temptation to scull with your hands! ;)

Taking pictures and touching things ... thoughts

I am PADI trained and I have the "DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING" so ingrained in my head that I'm literally rolling my eyes at myself if I suspect that a fin tip may have touched something by accident - I feel SO stupid! I have 135 dives and my dive instructor has said that I have good buoyancy - but...
