    For someone new to diving...

If you go to the Keys, dive in Key Largo, Joe Pennekamp State Park offers some easy diving is also the best diving in all the Keys. I would avoid Cozumel until you are comfortable with drift diving and diving in currents. Roatan Honduras, especially Coco View Resort, offers some great diving...

SSI Scuba Diver vs Open Water

I'm not sure about SSI. PADI's Scuba Diver cert. is a short version of the Open Water cert. For Scuba Diver the student will complete knowledge reviews 1-3, pool dives 1-3, and open water dives 1-2. I would find out why the instructor chose to award the Scuba Diver cert. if the students met...

How do you keep your console/spg accessible and out of the way?

I clip my spg to a D ring located on my right shoulder strap with a brass snap clip. I route the hose under my arm and across my body. My spg is close to my body and to view my pressure all I have to do is look down.

    BCD and Reg Recommendations??

I tell all my students to try out as many bcds' as you can. If your LDS has a pool ask if you can use it to test gear. Personally I prefer back inflation harness type bcds (not back plate). I have used a Dive Rite since 2000 that I use locally, teaching class, and for travel. I have several...

Jacks, Kona Honu, or Big Island, and Kona in general

We Dove with Pacific Rim Divers a few years ago. We were in Kona for 10 days and dove for 8 of those. Patrice, the owner of Pacific Rim was on the boat with us everyday. She has a smaller boat so no cattle calls. Pacific Rim was a true pleasure to be with. At that time Patrice would stay up...

    Dumb AOW question

Bill's last post explained it very well. One thing I wanted to add. Your location is also a factor in deciding which dives to do for AOW. Being in Madison WI you are probably not going to do a drift dive for example. That may be why the shops in your area use the same dives for AOW classes...

    Shell vs. neoprene

Bruce is correct in saying that most dry suit divers have tried and used one or two suits. The problems Bruce describes above concerning shell suits are due to divers not using the suit correctly. I have tried neoprene, vulcanized rubber, and shell suits. I have used all of these from...

    Under Water Camera

I think you would be better off getting a Canon G12 or Nikon P7001. They both take pro quality pics underwater, both can also take video, and each has settings similar to expensive DSLRs. Ikelite makes a housing for both cameras. Throw in a strobe and you will have a very good fairly...

Poll: At what tank pressure do you plan to end your dive and ascend w/ safety stop

I always use the rule of thirds. 1/3 of my air out, 1/3 back. you will always have enough air incase of an emergency.

    camera system traveling

I am looking for a way to travel with a Nikon D90 Ikelite housing with two Ikelite strobes and arms, two - three lenses and a dome port. A rolling backpack or carry on would be preferable. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
