The Sherwood Wisdom, Oceanic Datamax Pro Plus II, and the Aeris Atmos AI are all
very similar computers. They all have nearly identical features and are configured
using the buttons the same way.
The displays are slightly different but basically show the same information and
use the same...
After quite a bit of research, I got my wife a sd850is.
She loves it. She took some pretty nice shots on her first trip using a camera.
Here is a web link to her photos.
(Ok a few of these I took with an older SeaLife DC-500, most of those you can
identify by the slightly bluish tint in the...
As for RAW. (This may be a bit more info than you wanted)
There is a CCD sensor inside the camera that picks up the image and converts the light
into digital information.
The camera then processes this digital information and saves it into a file.
During the image processing the camera...
I looked at the manual for the SD800/IXUS850 and it appears that you cannot
re-assign the print button.
It looks like button is not on the WP-DC9 housing anyway.
see photo: sd900 & WD-DC9 photos
But it doesn't look like you can do it on the A640 either.
I don't really know anything...
Yep, "custom white balance" is the way to go on the SD series.
Luckily on cameras like the sd950 you can configure the camera to assign that function
to a single button (print button), which makes doing it really quick and easy.
See this thread for some discussion about it and a few photos I...
Canon for some reason didn't think that forcing a flash or disabling flash should be allowed in "auto" mode.
So in order to force flash ON or force flash OFF, you have to rotate the dial to "manual".
If you don't change anything else, it is the same as "auto". You can then set the
flash...
wow, $65/dive. It adds up quickly.
You might ask what accessories are you getting for that price?
Does that include a strobe or any other lenses.
If not, you should be able to purchase something will will give you similar
results for about the same cost.
On your existing camera, you need...
Just an update.
It looks like Ikelite has all the buttons on the sd950 housing
and CHDK appears to be available for the sd870 now as well as the sd850.

Not sure which camera you have. Not all the models support this.
If I remember correctly the sd750 does not.
For the SD850 see the manual page 71.
SD850is Manual
For those that want a direct answer (on the sd850)
Put the camera in (rec) mode. Auto or Manual.
Press [Menu]
down arrow...
And the unfortunate thing is that the sensor "wears out" even if you don't use it because
it is constantly reacting to the oxygen around it from just the air around it.
For those that would like to see the difference between canons underwater scene
mode and a manual/custom white balance on the sd850,
take a look at the attached photos.
They are not of exactly the same shot but it does reflect the difference in color tones.
The blueish one is the underwater...
You won't see any tank pressures. Those are not tracked in the samples.
Start and End pressure are tracked.
The only thing I can think of for your missing dives is that the software
will not download dives that are already in the logbook.
It seems to look at start date/time for matching.
If you...
As far as eval goes. You can download OceanLog for free and play with it
without having to do any actual dive downloads or imports.
The default install includes several sample dives for each of the Oceanic Computers.
You should be able to get a good feel for what it does and how it
works other...
The 850, 870 and 950 are all very similar.
6 months ago, I selected the sd850 for my wife and
I went through this decision process again just a month ago
when picking a new p&s camera for myself.
The 870 has a wider field of view. 28 vs 35mm.
The 850 and 950 have an optical view finder...
My wife and I have 200+ dives on our AtmosAIs and still really like them.
It is really easy to use, and has nice big numbers.
They are 3 years old now and we haven't had any issues with the Quick Disconnect.
If you are into downloading the dive data, the Aeris s/w has improved quite
a bit...
The 850is uses a Canon NB-5L battery. While it looks alot like the DC-500 battery,
it isnt. The 850is gets alot more photos per battery.
I was changing my batteries every dive with the DC-500.
The 850is seems to get triple or more shots than the DC-500 on a battery.
The 850is will easily go...
Not sure on size for the 570is but the space for the sd850is is less than 200k.
I'd assume that the 570is is similar.
It is kind of a pain and a bit complicated to figure out how to get your
card configured and to get it to load, but once you get
the steps down, it is fairly easy.
Once a card...
Buying a camera is like buying a car. Models and prices can vary wildly.
There is no single right answer.
I really like the 850is and picked it (twice) for several reasons.
Here are the biggest features I like that influenced my decision.
- very small about the size of deck of cards.
This...
What I was trying to say is that the underwater scene mode will never be as good
as a manual white balance. Yes it does do some correction, which is better than auto,
but it has no way of knowing what a proper white balance is. It makes assumptions
which can never be completely accurate...
