Rig = kit.
I dive back plates and wings. My favorite wing is 18 lb. While it would likely work all year round, in the winter my rig is ~20 lb negative. Should I doff it, I wouldn't want to lose it.
Agree completely Nem. But let me add, not only did the BC become the great enabler with regards to fitness, but how about proper weighting? Easy to over weight, (instructors are guilty of propagating this IMO) because the bc will (suspend the overweighted diver like a marionette) compensate for...
Jupiter. Much less congested than points south and bluer water than points north. If your wife likes beaches, than we have 'em. About 30 years ago the County began buying up beach front land. I've been walking, running, biking to the beach 30 years.
For 500k you can get a lot of house. A few...
You. Make several good points. Backin down is SOP here on the bigger boats. While waiting for pickup the only thing that should be moving is the boat. Even when scattered like marbles at the surface or on a solo or buddy pair pick-up, the captains have a lot on their plates.
When they do back...
Ok. As long as we are all spilling our guts, my first bc was a snorkel vest. Just had to be smart about filling. No training, just high school physics.
Gawd I loved some of the Farallon gear. Mostly cause I got certed as a kid and devoured anything scuba in my reading. I ate up catalogues. But I also loved my Farallon shotgun snorkel and my Farallon Bendomatic. If I could put hands on one of the Farallon tubes or maybe an old SP shotgun, I...
True that Tammy. I just don't get it. Only thing I can come up with (here I go again. Get off my lawn.) maybe the nitrox students never learned theory or ramifications. I guess you can get a nitrox ticket on line these days.
Ya know, back in the day, lots of us started the dive with j lever down. No rod. Regs were unbalanced. When breathing got stiff time to ascend. As we ascended air became available. And those old steel 72's had marvelous buoyancy stats. Plus, no pesky safety stops.
This is reminiscent of my first nitrox dives.
My training was very thorough. Instructor was great. He kept hammering home the importance of analyzing your own mix/tanks. He accompanied the training with horror stories.
The class included two boat dives. We got to the boat and I dutifully...
Ooh, ooh. Not really thread worthy, but does anyone remember capillary depth gauges? I ask, cause I attached one to my sea view gauge. World's first diving console. Lol
I've got several including a Dacor sitting in front of me. I use this one as a paper weight, but they function. Pissed off I sold my 72's years ago.
When Frank's son closed the shop, a friend of mine scooped up all the 72's. He lets me use them, but I badly want one in my locker.
Bob:
I simply never "logged" a dive till 1999. Even then, it only lasted one booklet thing. Now I can check my computers. I never considered anything more shallow than free dive depth to be a scuba dive. Never considered picking up trash in water you can stand up in as a dive. I never considered...
