I own both a Perdix and a Petrel. The Perdix is significantly more streamlined. However, I actually prefer the form factor and robustness of the Petrel, even when diving fully loaded with stages and a scooter.

That Aeris 300 for $199 is a fantastic deal. And it has the liberal DSAT algorithm which will help your situation. I wouldn't bother buying the download cable. And if you ever end up Tec diving, you can use it in gauge mode.

Average depth, and being able to reset it at the bottom, is useful for adjusting a planned deco profile based on what your actual dive profile was.
