I can only go by personal experience. I have pain in both knees at times when I'm walking. Downhill is the worst. Both have been sprained and one was a complete rupture. Knee pain is quite common in a person my age (68) with arthritis and old injuries that have healed but left scar tissue...
As far as learning what questions to ask you're starting off right. Follow the threads that interest you and you'll start to figure out what you need to know. Don't be afraid to ask questions when they come up. The vast majority of people here are very helpful.
Why do some of us "defend" Shearwater....because they make good computers and provide outstanding service. There are a few other companies who do the same with their own specific products. I want all of them to stay in business so the next time I need something they're there.
Case in point...
Yes please do. I noticed that Phil didn't write his normal introductory column in the last Diver magazine but thought he was just doing something else. I didn't know him personally but as a fellow North Vancouverite am very sad.
Maybe you have "phone users ear", where your brain remembers all the times your CEL phone has vibrated and plays it back to you....kind of like tinnitus, but not as annoying. :yeahbaby:
I don't recall needing a light at Coron, but maybe you're going into the wrecks and we only did a few, what I would call swimthroughs. There's certainly plenty to see without penetrating the wrecks and, of course, a light is always useful. It's not great vis around the wrecks, but not bad...
Makes sense.
Do you think that PADI should teach redundancy, maybe how to rig and carry a pony, or a brief introduction to doubles or sidemount and do away with CESA ?
Although I did a CESA in my OW course as a requirement for certification I've never had to do one while diving. Just wondering if you have and what the circumstances were that necessitated that action.
Please keep in mind that doing your OW in a drysuit, with extra weight and in cold water is more difficult than in the tropics, for example.
My wife and I had to do two extra dives to pass. I bolted towards the surface when I couldn't recover my reg and she had trouble removing and...
It sounds to me like you asked your instructors the right questions and correctly suggested things that you thought were causing problems. Given that these were your first open water dives, I think you did very well. It sounds to me like you'll be a good diver with practice. You'll also be...
In an emergency, though, you need to ditch your weights first which, IIRC, isn't done in CESA during OW training. This does cause me to question the validity of still teaching it, or at least requiring it for certification.
That would make sense as ships take on and discharge ballast water to compensate for buoyancy changes, thereby moving sea water from one place to another. Of course this would also spread the disease.
Just leave nature alone, particularly the fauna. Observe from an appropriate distance, but don't touch. Nothing out there is some cute, cuddly creature that just popped out of a CGI video.
