My review of the Suunto Zoop

Thanks, but I meant in terms of seeing what the display looked like (in real life) so I could compare it with the Zoop's display.

My review of the Suunto Zoop

I attach to this post images of the Zoop in surface mode which shows the difference between air and Nitrox. In Nitrox mode, when on the surface, the display will show the "O2%" icon, the figure for the percentage of oxygen that has been set, and the "OLF" icon. These are absent when in the air...

My review of the Suunto Zoop

You're welcome. I recommend, if you can, to see what the display on the Zoop and the Puck look like. I haven't had a chance yet to see a Puck in operation. My choice of the Zoop was partly based on the fact that I got more recommendations for it than any other entry-level dive computer when...

    Glove recommendations

Any other recommendations? I'm looking for 5 mm gloves for wetsuit diving in Monterey Bay.

    Diving Compass

Yes, you're right. I was confusing the two. And the picture you linked to was the one I had in mind. Thanks for clearing all that up for me.

    Diving Compass

So that compass must be different from the one in the picture I saw in which the SK-7 had the bigger window. What's odd is that DSS is selling a product with a knock-off of their wrist mount!

    Wetsuit fit question

Thanks for the post. I have decided to keep the wetsuit, but your post will be helpful to others who have the same concern, "Is this too small?" In other words, one wants a wetsuit that fits snugly but not too tight. But when does snug become tight? This is reminiscent of one of the great...

    Wetsuit fit question

Update I drove to Otter Bay Wetsuits today to be fitted for a custom vest and hood. The vest will be 3 mil and the hood mostly 12 mil. The easiest way to stay warm is to keep your head warm. The Otter Bay hood is widely recommended by Monterey Bay divers, so I opted to go that way. Cricket at...

My review of the Suunto Zoop

The best option, of course, is to give the user the choice of how he wants to deal with the reset. But the more options the manufacturers give, the more they seem to charge. If you're looking at an entry-level computer, for now, I don't think that kind of option will be available. Certainly not...

    Diving Compass

In another thread, which I couldn't find readily (or I would post a link), I saw side-by-side photos of an SK-7 and what I think was a DSS Deluxe Pro. The looked slightly different, and the SK-7 had a bigger side window. That tipped me in favor of the SK-7. But I ordered the DSS bungee mount.

Suggestion Feedback on keeping ScubaBoard members

I have another suggestion to improve the board: edit the stickies, or replace them with FAQ's. Often a thread will have a lot of good information, and the powers that be will make it a "sticky." Good idea as far as it goes, but there is often a lot of extraneous information in a thread that...

    PPo2 Dive Time?

What TS&M wrote is correct, but it should be understood that what she wrote assumes that the diver (like most rec divers) is not wearing a full-face mask. The convulsions triggered by oxygen toxicity are not themselves fatal, not even when underwater. But a diver not wearing a full-face mask...

    Emergency/survival dive kit

A roll-up hat is not a bad idea. Too bad it doesn't come in blaze orange. Gun metal is perfect camouflage for someone in the ocean.

    Wetsuit fit question

Yep. That's why I bought my fins and booties at the LDS. There can be significant cost savings via online, and there is far more selection online. Thought I would take a shot at buying the suit online. So far the jury is still out on whether that will prove to be satisfactory.

    Suggestions for dive computer

When I asked on this board, most of the recommendations that I got were for the Zoop. It fit the criteria I posted, and I bought it. After using it for more a little more than a year, I posted an extensive review of the Zoop, with some comparison to the Mares Puck and the Cressi Leonardo, also...

    Wetsuit fit question

I agree that there is no substitute for trying on "clothes" of any kind before buying, but suits off the rack usually fit me pretty good so I thought I would take a chance with ordering online. Worst comes to worst, I am out some postage. I tried on the suit again, this time without my T-shirt...

I'm confused by "swimming backwards." Do you mean turning around and swimming back to where you came from?

Suggestion Feedback on keeping ScubaBoard members

Certainly most people prefer to be castigated privately. But I don't consider excising a post and noting that the excised portion did not comply with the rules of the forum to be a castigation or, as was put in the quoted post, "a public denouncement." For example, take a post in which a...
