Suunto Ocean - inertial underwater 'navigation'!

New Suunto computer. Notable features (to me): Inertial navigation! Well, sort of. According to the manual, you can view a track of your dive in the app afterwards, but not during the dive. I'm assuming this is a) due to processing limitations, and b) because it uses the GPS start and end...

Kubi Dry Gloves vs. Santi Smart Gloves

I had Kubis previously; I now have the Santi system on one suit, and the PSI system (an aluminum knockoff of the Rolocks) on my other suit. I like the Santi system the most, mostly because the flexible/soft rubber ring is the least bulky and doesn’t mess with lights or scooters. The Kubo...

    Error Blue hole fatality

Unless I'm missing something...I thought this was accepted best practice (and GUE SOPs) for deco bottles - dive with the reg pressurized but the valve closed.

    My Blacktip Leaked Yesterday

FWIW, I have got through to someone when calling the number listed on Google Maps before (after they left items off an order, and ignored emails about it...). The person on the phone wasn't exactly any friendlier, but it did resolve the issue!

Question PADI Rescue Diver Chest compressions

Curious if you know of any testing/source for this? I always assumed that purging a reg into an unconcious victim's mouth wouldn't do much good, as the air would just come out of the exhaust valve. Rescue breaths and bag valve create some amount of positive pressure that (I think) would be...

Question PADI Rescue Diver Chest compressions

Seems like the article isn't available online anywhere, but I'd like to read the paragraphs following this. That text doesn't actually say that you provide in-water chest compressions - it says that you have a "decision to make", and that the victim will need rescue breaths and chest...

    Review Blacktip DPV Woes

I haven't actually changed my shaft seal yet (if it ain't broke, etc), but the procedure looked very straightforward when I looked it up. To save $$$, I definitely recommend buying the VESC from Flipsky directly and flashing it yourself. Be warned, some of the other low-voltage components (i.e...

    Review Blacktip DPV Woes

Programming the VESC is very easy. I did it myself - after buying a replacement board from Dive Xtras that arrived completely DOA, and their refusal to help, I realized that they use an off-the-shelf Flipsky VESC 4.2, and the firmware to flash on it is available on Github. As long as you have a...

    Blacktip batteries and flying

I've flown with the 12Ahs and not had a problem. As others have said, make sure you have the red cap, print out all the documentation, and give yourself 30 extra minutes in the airport so that you can have an argument with TSA without missing your flight.

    Twinset storage question

I have a 120cm (‘double shoulder length’) climbing sling with a random old shoulder pad from a tool bag slung over it. You can hook it around the valves, and then it’s the right height for me to squat and lift entirely with my legs. Not the most comfortable solution for carrying long distances...

Santi Flex 2.0 heated undersuit - how thick is it and how buoyant is it?

Once it’s compressed a little with use (say ~20 dives), it’ll be a bit more buoyant than Arctics. When I had a (brand new) Flex 2.0 that didn’t fit me, I used about 4lbs of extra lead, but I strongly suspect that would have gone down a little bit over time.

    Opinions on Apeks FSR

I have DS4s, DSTs and FSRs that I have used for my backcountry doubles regs at various points. I like the routing of the FSR (with 5th port) the most, with the extra angle all the LP hoses come off at the perfect angle. I also service my own regs, and the replaceable knife edge on the FSR is a...

Din Retainer / Hand Wheel Loosening?

I've had this happen on my Apeks regs, but only when the DIN threads are getting particularly crusty. I've taken to giving the handwheels an ultrasonic bath every 6 months/50 dives, at the same time I check all the hoses for tightness, confirm cracking pressure etc. Also encourages me to replace...
