    LW-PLA for buoyancy?

The print came out to 0.6g/cm3; I think I can improve on that a little by tweaking the print settings as well Idea with 100% infill is exactly preventing there from being any water ingress, which I've seen with all other prints that I've tried. It should also make the max depth more consistent...

    LW-PLA for buoyancy?

Bumping this slightly dormant thread to share: I bought some of Bambulab's new ASA Aero filament, and ran my first underwater test with it last night. Initial results were execellent: printed with 100% infill, there was no buoyancy shift from 0 to 30m, and the print weighed the same after the...

    New Primary

I really like the XTAR D26 1600S as a primary for PNW diving, it has a very tight beam that cuts through low visibility well, and works really well for signalling. If you leave it on the second-brightest setting, it's constant output and ~2hrs runtime on a 5Ah 21700 battery. More than enough...

    ammonite canister review

I have an Ammonite Accu 24 with a Tecline light, it's been flawless through a few hundred dives, very durable. I did break the canister by dropping it on concrete (my fault entirely), Ammonite's customer service was excellent, and I was able to purchase a new housing for ~$100. The design and...

    New Seacraft Go! DPV

I mean...there is a comparison between both of them. The Go is (by all accounts) a better scooter, but it's also significantly more expensive. A lot of people (myself included) are probably trying to work out if the upgrade is 'worth it', compared to all the other things we could also spend...

    New Seacraft Go! DPV

How do you find top/boost speed vs the Blacktip and the XJ? Also curious if you've had any issues with weighting/buoyancy in fresh or salt.

Undergarment recommendation requested: best for warmth+maneuverability

In the last 3 years, I've been through (personally owned) the following. All diving in ~40-50F water (Vancouver Island) year-round. Ranking how long I would comfortably dive in each of those combos in winter (~40F water): Fusion one-piece 45 mins 4th Element Arctic 2-piece 30 mins 4th Element...

Frequent shifting of hoses for first-stage regulators

I, also, have dove a single tank exactly twice since switching to doubles in 2020, even though ~75% of my diving is still recreational local shore diving. Rather than switching back and forth between singles and doubles (and the associated hassle/extra gear of extra reg sets, wings, single tank...

Question Do you bring tools with you on dives?

FWIW, I had that exact multitool in my wetnotes, but when I had to try and use it to remove a LP port cover on a boat a couple months ago, the hex head (which is square) stripped out instantly.

Suunto Ocean - inertial underwater 'navigation'!

I don’t think a lot of wearables have GPS-based compasses any more, do they? The very low cost of integrated IMUs with magnetometers has made that mostly obsolete (I think)

Info My parameterized (printable) 'semi-soft' Goodman handle design

If you open the Onshape file, you can right-click ‘Part 1’ in the lower left pane, go to ‘Export’, and chose as STL or STEP. If you want to change the light diameter, create a copy of the file and edit the light diameter variable. If you’re having problems, PM me the light diameter you need and...

Info My parameterized (printable) 'semi-soft' Goodman handle design

FWIW, I also have a good hard Goodman handle model for the D26, with a similar thumb loop setup and a guard for the button. It’s what I use for my primary setup (most of the time).

I can also recommend the Divesoft flow limiter that goes into an LP port, which gives me identical results to the Professional flow limiter, while being much cheaper. I tried it with the Forensics Detector CO monitor linked further up the thread earlier today, and it seems to work well (although...

Info My parameterized (printable) 'semi-soft' Goodman handle design

The o-ring on the light head has nothing to do with retaining it, it’s just a marker I keep on my backup lights to differentiate one from the other (my primary and backups all use 21700 batteries, so I rotate cells through backup 2 > backup 1 > primary > recharge to keep things fresh). You’re...

Info My parameterized (printable) 'semi-soft' Goodman handle design

In my endless quest to make more light handles, I've been playing around with a very simple Goodman handle design, with a rigid light mount and and adjustable bungee hand loop. If anyone is interested, the fully parameterized Onshape model is here: Bungee Goodman Handle Some benefits of this...

Suunto Ocean - inertial underwater 'navigation'!

According to the manual, it’s based on: So it does have a compass, just not displaying the headings to the diver, which sucks. My guess is that it uses IMU/magnetometer data, and then uses the exit GPS location to error-correct the course. If they got fancy, it might also use the pressure...

Question Scubapro DIN Conversion - to DIY or not to DIY?

No, internally they're identical. 230bar is the limit on yoke connectors, DIN connection can be as high as 300 bar (although many DIN valves are only rated to 230 bar)
