    Review Logic Genesis 3.1

(Background: I have an XJ-S and Blacktips) One thing I've always wondered about the Genesis scooters: is there any kind of detent or marking that makes it straightforward to set at a defined 'cruise' speed? I use my (known, tested in different configs) scooter cruise speed as a big input for...

    New Halcyon Rebreather?

Adding an IMU is likely an immaterial electronics cost (like, $5). Adding position monitoring data was an area of benefit identified in RB4 (p227): "The forum identifies the use of accelerometers or inclinometers in rebreather heads as an opportunity for capturing body trim and movement data...

Evolved Goodman handle for XTAR D26

To add to this: the current list of light that you'll find handles for in that Onshape doc: - XTAR D26 1600S - DGX (DiveGearExpress) 1000-6 - Hollis LED1200 - Nanight X1 - Orcatorch ZD710 If anyone has any other lights they need the model adapting for, shoot me a message.

Apeks AXT vs XTX exhaust Valve?

No, they're (subtly) different. I've bought lots of stuff from GiDiveStore before, and they have the right part number (RG912050). Also worth noting the recall notice on the ATX exhaust diaphragms.

Info Project Baseline lands in the Midwest

Followup question: do you have a standardized protocol for taking underwater viz measurements using a Secchi disc? When I looked into it before, Secchi disc measurements are heavily dependent on the light source, and things like natural light vs artificial light, placement of the artificial...

Goodman handle for the DGX Gears 1000-6

I recently picked up the (excellent) @DiveGearExpress 6-degree light, for use as a primary on shorter dives. I made a version of my (mostly) 3D printed Goodman handle, only slightly modified from my XTAR D26 version. You can download the file for printing from Onshape here; at some point, I...

    A couple doubles questions

FWIW, one easy thing I’ve started doing is switching to an aluminum BP instead of steel, and then adding a couple extra pounds of tail weight. I like the ‘soft’ V-weight systems that let you put weight in a Velcro pouch, just because it gives a lot of flexibility. Also marginal gains, but I...

    Kubi Dry Glove Issues

Narrator voice: it did, in fact, leak. @Dont_Hold_Your_Breath , that will 100% leak. My hands are tiny so I don’t have a lot of experience putting the larger glove sizes on, but with some wriggling you should be able to get those creases out. The glove should also get smaller the further up it...

    Symbios

The other thing I realize, looking at the images: everyone is diving it with a necklaced 2nd stage, as well as the long hose. Don’t know if that perhaps means that they’ve nixed the fancy integrated-BOV double-hose reg option?

    Symbios

Stumbled across a fairly long overview here, with a ton of pics and some underwater video as well. Notable stuff (for me anyway): Custom-looking reg for the O2 bottle with 3 hoses coming off (assume MAV, solenoid, HP to transmitter?). Would make it a little more annoying to BM the O2...

    Kubi Dry Glove Issues

I’m struggling to understand exactly what problem you’re having, but one thing I can tell you is that the way you have the gloves installed at the moment will leak. You have to install them the other way around for lined gloves, otherwise water wicks along the lining.

Info My parameterized (printable) 'semi-soft' Goodman handle design

I’ve done 10ish dives with it (with the DGX 6 degree light, which has no mounting hole for a regular handle) and had zero issues so far. I find it as easy to slip on and off as a regular hard Goodman, but a little more stable when it’s on my hand. All in all, I have some obvious confirmation...

    Suex (or other DPV) stand

Needed a stand for my new (to me) ride, so here you go. Designed to use 1 ½" (nominal size) ABS pipe. Print two of the stand, then slot in ABS pipe, and use solvent to secure if you feel like it. Note the orientation for printing, the top side has filleted edges - print the completely...

Info Project Baseline lands in the Midwest

This looks very interesting! I'd be curious to see the design of the data loggers - would be interested in deploying something similar on some of our sites locally. Also curious if you have documentation for taking horizontal visibility measurements using a Secchi disk and artificial light...

Info My parameterized (printable) 'semi-soft' Goodman handle design

I've had some 100% infill PETG parts in use for 2+ years/200 dives, with zero issues. I've had some test prints of ASA Aero, ABS, and PETG 'marinading' in a salt water pressure pot @ 9 bar for the last week - going to leave for a month and then re-test the breaking strength

    Occy freeflowing when gently submerged

It's safe to do, but I would say that 3 turns (full rotations?) sounds like quite a lot to me. If it's still freeflowing after that, I would suggest checking: - IP of the first stage - whether the spring in the 2nd stage balance chamber is worn out and not able to balance the IP under regular...

    Occy freeflowing when gently submerged

If he adjusted the spring adjuster (which, given he said he used an Allen wrench to do, I assume he did), you can adjust that without purging at the same time, at least according to Apeks.

My Detailed Initial In-Water Impressions of Garmin Mk3i

I’ve been daily wearing my Mk2i and diving it regularly pretty much since it came out; the battery is a little degraded, but I’m still charging maybe twice per week. That’s with daily wear, 4-5 GPS activities (running, MTB), and probably 2 dives per week.

    Warning about Garmin Descent!

Only issue with that is that the computer doesn't know what gas you're diving. I suppose there's a fairly easy workaround for that with single-gas mode, and I support the idea that you should be able to 'convert' a logged Gauge mode dive to Single Gas by specifying the gas used. Wouldn't work...

Whites Drywear heading in the wrong direction

My understanding is that the DryCore was always made in Canada, while the AirCore was made at a factory in Mexico. I’m guessing that might have something to do with the use of Drycore by the new Whites - they perhaps don’t have the tooling or IP to make the Aircore? Also, completely anecdotal...
