    Trimming blacktip travel

Yeah, my design mounts a battery pack directly to the nose cone to move the weight further forward. (Don’t mind the tape, just an engineering prototype.)

    Trimming blacktip travel

It’s not really doable with the power tool batteries. I can sell you a custom 15Ah battery pack that, when combined with a slightly positive T handle, lets you trim out the travel (and also has 25% more capacity than the 12Ah Dewalts). Drop me a message if you’re interested!

    LP45 Buoyancy

I’ve got a pair of LP50s (Faber painted) and LP45s( the OMS/Faber ones from the 1990s) , I’ve used both as mini doubles for OC and more recently as dilout for my JJ. I haven’t had a chance to actually measure the buoyancy/weight, but my anecdotal observation is that the LP45s seem 1-2kg more...

    Ultrasonic Cleaning: suitable containers

Something like FILFISK 3-piece resealable bag set, multicolor, 1.1/1.3/2.6 qt - IKEA US, you can find them at any grocery store in Canada.

    Ultrasonic Cleaning: suitable containers

I’ve been using silicone soft bags (marketed as reusable) to do this occasionally. I’ve been meaning to try large silicone ice-cube trays, for maximum parts-organizing potential, but haven’t got that far yet.

    Question Regretting buying rebreather

Inevitably? I know one person who had to send theirs to Europe, and it was a second-hand analog unit. On the DiveCAN units, things are more modular and there’s very little that requires a factory rebuild (rather than RebreathersUSA) as far as I know.

    Halcyon Symbios

I don’t have a real-world report, but from looking at the FCC paperwork, the transmitter is definitely not compatible with anything else on the market. Totally different frequency (and modulation).

    Knobs on dump valves?

I will say, I’ve been on multiple dives where someone’s dump valve pull string (for a shoulder dump, on a Hydros BCD if I remember right) got stuck under a strap and was holding the dump valve open. One of those occasions, it was actually somewhat dramatic, with the person unable to establish...

Question Dive Xtra Black Tip Tech - Camera Mount

FWIW, I bought that mount a few years ago, and was singularly unimpressed with it. The plastic ball mounts broke off on me twice, since they don't seem to like the force exerted when you have the arms extended and get on the trigger. I'd probably use it for a Gopro, but not a bigger housing...

Rebreather NSS/CDS report from death at Peacock earlier this year.

That may well be your personal experience - but bear in mind that individuals' sensitivity to CO2 varies quite a lot. The scientific paper above - which AFAIK is the only rigorous data on pre-breathes and their ability to pick up scrubber problems - suggests that some people are more capable...

Rebreather NSS/CDS report from death at Peacock earlier this year.

Genuinely asking - is there reporting that shows that the diver neglected to pre-breathe?

Rebreather NSS/CDS report from death at Peacock earlier this year.

Exactly - and I would say that the 75% detection rate (15/20 subjects noticing a completely absent scrubber) is an absolute BEST case for this kind of failure. Two additional things I would highlight from that study: The 'partially failed' canister (sealing o-ring between the canister and the...

no stock -- Dive Gear Express (DGX)

@DiveGearExpress a related question: when I bought a DGX single-tank package a few years ago (late 2021? 2022?) the wing I got was branded as Made in the USA by Oxycheq. Do you have any insight on when/why you switched suppliers for the wing?

New main (not a canister) light recommendation

That’s a good question actually. I bought mine from DiveInn, which is European but ships to the US very easily. There are a number of stores listed as dealers for Nanight in the US, so it might be worth contacting one closer to you and asking if they can get it. Or, you can order from GiDive...

New main (not a canister) light recommendation

If you’re after a small light that has the same kind of flood/spot light as the Sola S/F models, I highly recommend the Nanight X1. It’s tiny, uses a very commonly available battery (21700) that you can hot-swap or externally charge, and has a good tight spot beam and a very even flood beam...

Garmin Descent Mk2i vs. Shearwater Teric

I will say, I haven't been the most gentle on my Mk2i, but I think you'd find it very difficult to break. It's a titanium shell with a sapphire crystal screen, both materials that are extremely tough. The bezel of my watch shows some wear (where the anodizing has worn off), but the screen is...

Info SOFIRN SD08 3200 lumens dive light with RGB beacon

Oh yeah, I meant side-by-side 21700s, the extra length of two in series is completely impractical.

Info SOFIRN SD08 3200 lumens dive light with RGB beacon

I agree with the others that the RGB lighting is really not going to be a draw for most people. The two things I’d really love to see for some differentiation: - A light with a battery size somewhere between the 1x 21700 or 4x 18650 sizes that are common. A light with 2x 21700 would be a...

Garmin Descent Mk2i vs. Shearwater Teric

I've owned the Mk2i for a few years and put a couple hundred dives on it around Vancouver Island (so same conditions as you). I've also borrowed a Teric. They're both great dive computers, and I've used the Mk2i as my primary computer for many tech dives. With the 'big numbers' mode in...
