    Death at Windy Point 6/18/05

33 Seconds?!!! Holy Cow! Based upon what I have read, here in this thread, he also had no air in the tank, and lots of blood in his airway. As a total newbie diver, I might SPECULATE FOR THE PURPOSES OF DISCUSSION ONLY(as some others had) that he wanted to do a solo dive, he lost track of his...

    Thinking about going to steel

First let me say, that I am a new diver, been certified about a year. What I need to do first is get my SAC rate & breathing down pat, BEFORE I go buying new equipment and I recognize that. But above all, I want to make a good and safe decision. I have been turning over in my mind ways to...

    new world's depth record

Jeez, that's, what 318m, so almost 32 atmospheres, right? -- You'd suck down a whole tank in, what, 3 or 4 breaths at that depth. -- You'd better have your nitrogen and oxygen percenteges precisely right(like, say, to two decimal places, i.e. 9.64% O2), seems like it would be very very easy...

    Thrashing about

Other than sitting on bottom, how is your ability to stay stable while swimming. I can attest to the bad effects of overweighting. If I'm overweighted, I am *ALL OVER THE PLACE*. I took a few pounds out of my BC, and the difference was *amazing*. I would concur with an earlier post, that...

Rules about touching the marine life

I will confess to tapping a big crab on the back of his shell to get him to raise his claws, and lightly touching the antennae of a big lobster, making him scoot(lightning-quick) back into his hole. In retrospect, might not have been such a hot idea. What if a giant alien came along while I'm...

FANTASTIC weekend on the Bottom Scratcher(long)

Oh, no, no...I lay in bed fuming over the fact that hotel security would not come and shut these little brats up. At one point, about 2am, I came out into the hallway and literally screamed at them, "people are trying to *******ING SLEEP!"

FANTASTIC weekend on the Bottom Scratcher(long)

Hi, all Had a great time this weekend, headed out for a business trip, left a couple days early to catch some diving before beginning the grind. This was my first boat dive, first ocean dive, I reserved a spot on the bottom scratcher about two weeks ago... Fri, 6/3 Arrived orange county...

    air integrated computer or not?

I have an Aeris Atmos AI, and I am very pleased with it, my newbie status notwithstanding... With the air integration, I feel safer knowing that the unit is tracking my allowable bottom time based upon my air consumption and/or nitrogen loading, whichever is ticking away my bottom time...

Looking for Shore Dive June 5th

Hi, folks, I am looking for a group to join June 5th for a shore dive somewhere in/around Orange County. I will be out on a business trip the week of June 6-10. I usually drive to the mountains on Sunday but I will be diving Catalina Saturday & don't want to get bent... --'Goose

    Dumbest Thing You Have Done...

I have caught myself making the following mistakes: -- Turning air on enough to breathe fine, but not the all-the-way-on- and-quarter-turn-back thing -- Not checking my Spare Air's little pop-out pressure indicator -- Not checking my computer frequently enough

A device that lets you breathe underwater without the tanks?

I like the gills idea too, but wouldn't they have to have a massive amount of square footage to support our big sweaty warm-blooded mammal metabolism? And, wouldn't they have to be hooked directly into our aortas? :11: I like diving and all, but sheesh ;)

    Once again...SCUBATOYS!!!

I totally concur...every time I go in there Larry, Joe & the staff are always straight up with me. I recall one time when I had this goofy idea about a way to backup some gear and Larry actually talked me out of a sale(a considerable one), and illustrated how I didn't really have to do...

    Diving CSSP 6/10/2005

Not only is it a good excuse...check...reason, I would submit that there is no good excuse for *NOT* taking off work and going diving at any opportunity. --'Goose

PADI 5-Star Water World sued for selling toxic scuba tank air

I invariably do this as part of my personal pre-dive checks. My question is... Wouldn't he have known that air was "malodorous" when he took the first hit off of his regulator? And then got out of the pool? And then told the shop manager? And then made it a rule to always smell his air before...

    Diving with a cracked rib

I am most certainly a newbie, and by no means an expert, but if it were myself, I would wait until it was *completely* healed, I felt perfectly fit and ready, and was cleared by my physician. Maybe even put in a call to DAN. --'Goose

Good point, quite correct. I had consumed a few mass quantities when I wrote that.

What piece of equipment has made your diving more enjoyable/easier/comfortable

There was a fellow out at CSSP today who was nice enought to let me try his, and ...WOW... definitely my next purchase.

What piece of equipment has made your diving more enjoyable/easier/comfortable

-- A Spare Air... I feel more comfortable knowing I have it. In retrospect, however, I have made the mistake (today in fact) of not checking the little pressure popper before I went in. -- The seacure mouthpiece... definitely an improvement... I almost feel like I don't have the reg in my mouth.

    Missile Silo Diving

Y'know... I have always been a little leery of that dive. Not anything specific that I can point to, but those missles were loaded with plutonium, and as I understand it, had some pretty toxic fuel either loaded in them or right next to them. I know they were shielded, and I know that the Army...

    Memorial day

Well said.... It's not about going diving, or hitting the lake, or having a barbecue...we *should* do those things...but all the while keeping in mind the dear sacrifices that were made to give us the free society in which we can enjoy them. --'Goose
