Moving from Warm Water Diving to Cold Water

Ehh, I found water in the high 40s and low 50s quite tolerable in a 7mm john.. It's really not the water that I find cold, it's the getting out and changing out of wet gear...

    Bad service stories

Closest I can come is watching a dive op (won't name names or locations) put a diver in the water who couldn't even set up his regs on his tank - not a clue how the gear went. Another diver had to help him...

Why don't we have emergency signaling devices connected to the boat?

    Wetsuits

Can you find the hyper thru Amazon? They're quite forgiving in their return policy, so you can get it and try it on (though probably not dive it), and only be out the return shipping if it's not the one you want.

did something a bit different this morning ...

Agreed, good segment! Entertaining to listen to for an hour. Maybe you could talk them into making it a regular (at least monthly) segment, get some more people in our forum....

    Leaving expensive equipment down.

So, what you're looking for is basically an automatic life jacket like you'd find in a plane that inflates by an adjustable hydrostatic pressure sensor? It's a cool idea... maybe you could find a company to sell it to....

Revelations while describing diving to others.

*Not a vendor, not a sales pitch* Highly recommend the Cressi Big Eyes. Nice, soft, low volume, low profile mask. I've been amazed how much more I can see with that mask. Fairly inexpensive, too... especially for what you get. Then if you throw slap straps on them, even better for comfort...

    Do you "give back"?

Haven't started yet, as I just got my c-card end of October, but next year (time permitting) I would like to help one of the LDS with it's milfoil eradication efforts. They target one body of water at a time (this is all from my take on it from a quick chat with the guy in the shop) and run...

How about this idea for a dive log...

Looks pretty cool, thanks for sharing!

Revelations while describing diving to others.

LOL... That was my thought in the water off Islamorada.... 65 feet down looks like something you could do with a mask and snorkel.... However, in my home waters of Maine (especially the fresh water I got certified in), I couldn't tell you what the bottom looks like from 65 feet... It's not a...

    Finding Buddies

Actually found out recently that the "not so" LDS (about 80-90 minutes away), as opposed to the close one, runs a regular underwater hockey game (LOL) and regular dives and such, so I have gotten in contact with them. Will work through the closer one, too... Thanks for the tips, even if most...

Revelations while describing diving to others.

Idle comment in an attempt to re-rail this convo... Back to interesting things heard while describing diving - If someone tells you "I'm afraid of the sea. You can't see the sharks coming." tell them that, yes, you can see them coming a lot better on land, but the diving's just not as good....

    Finding Buddies

As a newly certified diver, I was just curious what methods people have the most success with for finding dive buddies in their area (I'm in Maine). I know there's always the "ask your LDS" method, but I figured I would see what else people are doing. There's certainly no rush in the search...

learning to dive in a week?

learning to dive in a week?

Just to add my $0.02... I did my cert recently, and did the on-line coursework, followed by a local instructor for the wet work.. I highly recommend this method, as I was able to do the course work here and there as I felt like it. Then, when it came time for the wet work, I think I spent...

Gearing up: One newbies experience (long)

Wow... this conversation makes me feel great about my setup... Just cert'ed a month ago, and got crazy lucky on my gear... Had someone I knew who gave up diving a while ago and didn't do anything with their gear (this was probably 10 years ago). When they found out I was getting certified...

    Key Largo Dive Boat Questions

To answer the unanswered portion of your post: I just came back from Key Largo about a month ago - arrived there with a fresh c card (not ONE dive on it outside of the class). The best dives of the whole trip were actually through a company on Islamorada, Key Dives. Our guides were awesome...
