    Santa Barbara Oil Spill

When you drill in ANY area the risk to the environment is real. I don't dispute that at all. My only point is that to blame the Santa Barbara spill on drilling (as Sea Save did) is conflating two separate issues. Correlation doesn't imply causation. -Adrian

    Santa Barbara Oil Spill

Ok. That's fine. The point remains - how does the rupture of a landlocked buried piping have ANYTHING to do with offshore drilling? -Adrian

Raw sewage spill at Monterey, California

Again, selective reporting on your part. The published reports vary from 100,000 gallons to 220,000 gallons. Perhaps you might consider adding some objectivity to your reports rather than cherry picking the worst case reports to bolster your case. I can't speak for others but I would have more...

    Santa Barbara Oil Spill

According to USA Today, "Built in 1987 and installed in 1991, the pipeline transfers oil from ExxonMobil's Las Flores Canyon Processing Facility to a pumping station in Gaviota owned by Plains. The oil then flows east to refineries in Kern County." So no, it doesn't appear to have been...

    Scuba in Cuba

I have two passports - Canada and U.S. - and dual citizenship. It's prudent to have both. Some countries will allow you entry on one but not another. Canada, for example, can deny you entry even as a Canadian citizen if you're trying to enter on a foreign citizenship passport. They cannot deny...

    Self Reliant Diving Required?

Yup. Kelp is glorious stuff, and much tougher than it appears. Welcome to California diving. I know it's a thread hijack, but we seem to be a little off base already, so I'll continue... I'm more than a little confused by scubadude23's gear choices. Most of the gear you listed is...

    Displaced clavicular fracture

Tobin - I broke three ribs playing rugby in 2004 (lesson learned: playing rugby against Samoans on a frozen pitch in a night game in Japan is never a good idea). They still ache at random intervals. Do yours ever flare up? To the OP: hang in there! The pain WILL diminish in time. -Adrian

    Displaced clavicular fracture

My right humerus is artificial from elbow to shoulder. 4-part hemiarthroplasty as a result of a motorcycle accident in 1998. The glenoid fossa and rotator cuff were left intact somehow, thank goodness. Anyway, proper trim while diving becomes an issue after a while, as does scootering. The...

Dive dry with dr. Bill #637: The mayor of blue corner

The last dive I did in Palau was in 2005. There was still a large Napoleon Wrasse at Blue Corner on those dives and friends who have been there more recently inform me that it's still there. I can't say that it's the same one, but it's nice to think that it could be. Thanks! -Adrian

    Husky table

I use both, but postdive I prefer the Husky. That way I'm not pouring salt water into the tailgate mechanism of my truck. I learned that trick after spending $200 on replacement latches and cabling after they rusted out from salt water intrusion. -Adrian

    Reactions to Tech Gear

The comment I get most often is "are you going to carry all that?" when they see the breather, Cuda 650 and two bailout tanks on the tailgate of my truck as I climb into my drysuit. -Adrian
