College Dorm - Drying Gear Fast

I cant' believe I forgot. Anyways you can hand wash stuff in a scent nutralizing soap - Or machine wash but that is not good for some stuff. You can get really good products at your local hunting store designed to de-scent hunting garb. Also you could use an old hockey equipment trick...

College Dorm - Drying Gear Fast

you can buy cheap boot driers at most northern sporting good stores or Canadian tire. It blows warm not hot air which helps, especially with boots. I agree 100% with the fan, but found that hung to drip dry, along with a good rub by dry towels will speed up the process. A post dive...

Looking for beginner shore dives in BC

Hey guys I realized that it is only a few more days until Cozumel for me, and so have started planning my next vacation. We have a couple newly certified OW diver friends that have not done anything outside of apline lakes. Therefore I am looking for a few great, easy shore dives on the...

Almost finished with certification. have ear equalization concerns though.

Yawning for me at least is caused when I am not sufficently equalizing the pressure. Basically it is my bodies way of telling me that I am not doing this enough. Really by dropping the back of your jaw and wiggling it side to side (works for me) you should equalize better. My wife however...

14yr old came up at end of 2nd open water dive and is now scared

Not sure if someone has had the same suggestion. I have seen this a bunch of times. Up here in Canada even our warmest waters are freezing cold most of the time. Young divers, nervous divers or those whom are uncomfortable can sometimes be on the edge of panic. Then when they take of the...

    tusa zen - better manual?

Does anyone know where I can get a good manual for the Tusa Zen? The current manual that comes with the unit is very poor, with crappy descriptions, not to mention a bunch of spelling mistakes and or gramatical errors. What I am looking for is a graphical step by step how to do X type of...

Home Owners Association - Going Ballistic

I have had family members on O2. Anyways at any point in time we had 20 to 30 cylinders in the house, with weekly exchanges drawing some interesting looks from the neighbors. We were asked a couple times, and gladly showed how they were secured, stored etc... Most of the time it is an...

How much will you spend on dive-related gear/training/travel/etc in 2011?

I try and keep the dive travel seperate from the equipment on the old budget sheet. Keeps the wife a little more relaxed when the dollar values are lower  Mind you most of the time the expense is hers. Should have voted higher though, because we are both looking at the lavacore stuff...

    laser eye surgery?

At least for my wife the price was significantly dependant on the extent of the surgery. Basically it can be cheaper the lower your prescrpition is. Or at least that is the way it was a couple years back. She also got a guarantee of 20 20 vision or better or the surgery would be free.

    looking for recommendation

My advice would be to take your class locally and get a recommendation. This solves a few issues. One it insures that you will have multiple instructors giving you training. Second you will know if you like diving before you get somewhere tropical. Third, most local dive shops have...

    laser eye surgery?

My wife had the lasik surgery done at Lasik MD. She LOVES the result and can use any mask and has better vision than me now. She did suffer from dry eyes for a while. Tropical and moist environments help with this as in Edmonton Alberta we have almost no humidity in the winter. Plan to...

    Cenote appropriate for beginner?

If I could only figure out how to get my video off my dvd. We did Dos Ochos with one of the nat geo vidiographers and got some terrific footage. Got some snipps from other place especially showing the freaky vis changes of the bubbles on the roof. Can someone point me to a how too on how to...

    Cenote appropriate for beginner?

My wife and I have both done a few cenotes dives and they were terrific. That said, she while an experianced diver felt unconfortable to a degree that she does not experiance either on night, wreck, or other dives. In a way it kind of feels like an ice dive, albiet a little warmer. I...

    purchase question?

Hey everyone I am looking at spending some money in the new year. 1st I am looking at the new lavacore underwear/wetsuit tops and bottoms. Both as an undergarment for a drysuit, and as a standalone for tropical diving. Has anyone had a chance to use this? is it warm? how does it...

    Opinions on DAN

My wife ran into a problem a couple years ago in Mexico, basically a reverse squeeze that did not clear and caused inflamation and other complications. Anyways one call to DAN and no worries, they were great. The only other time I have had to call was when I ran into what I thought was DCS...

Activities for a Discover Scuba Dive Course

Hey I would avoid the hoolahoops. I have seen this done for open water and advanced classes and even for the open water students they found it VERY difficult not to mention an entanglement hazard. The AOW course did Ok with it, as they were taking their peek bouyancy course but you need...

Gear and certs to purchase with these goals in mind?

I had the chance to run this past a PADI course director the other day. It was his opinion, that when diving cold water with a dry suit and possible camera gear a 40lbs wing would almost a requirement, as it would be risky to try this with anything less. If you are going to try very cold...

Gear and certs to purchase with these goals in mind?

I would go with the 40 lbs wing for a number of reasons. First, your weight required to dive should be calculated WITHOUT camera gear. That way if you drop your camera you are not on a rocket asscent to the surface, therefore you would need to float this weight using the bladder in the BC...
