    Best dive location for Beginners?

I would also recommend Curacao or Bonaire, the weather is almost guaranteed to be near perfect anytime of year. The diving is uncomplicated, navigation is super easy on Bonaire, mostly easy on Curacao. There are some sites on Curacao with narrow coves and cliffs to the left and right that make...

    Cheap and quick from Ohio

I must have spaced on the long weekend thing, it's really hard to make anything work on that schedule, even if you cut the pre fly dry time down to 18hrs or "flame suit on" 12hrs. You are looking at 1.5 to 2 days of diving 4-8 dives. Seems like a lot of stress for a little diving.

    Cheap and quick from Ohio

You should do Cleveland to JFK about 150 rt and Jet Blue to Bonaire current one way special at $89 or $98 ( not a typo) . You could round trip to Bonaire for under $500 Cancun, you could do the bag drag and be on Cozumel 4-5 hrs after you land for another $100 bucks or so.(Public bus to Playa...

Bonaire airport customs starting to tax personal baggage items

Your engine, transmission, wheels, and body panels are all quite distinct and separable. Together they make up your car, your car is what you pay registration fees and taxes etc. on. You could ship your car in parts to save space and shipping fees, but you are still going to pay the customs due...

Bonaire airport customs starting to tax personal baggage items

One could argue that an underwater photography system is a single item as any one piece cannot complete the designated activity alone. So your 3k camera with a lens and 2k housing and a strobe is well over your $5k exemption. I realize it's a bit far fetched and I don't think many people will...

Bonaire airport customs starting to tax personal baggage items

Though I was replying to some one else at first. Report should be rather uneventful, I rock a G-Shock with a step counter, because FitBits didn't like to go diving. @tursiops , You say this is no big deal, but let's say you have 20k in photo equipment you pay your refundable tax of $1600, on...

Bonaire airport customs starting to tax personal baggage items

I agree it seems a little extra, what about the non diver with a $25,000 Rolex or $1,000,000 Patek Philippe on their wrist?

Bonaire airport customs starting to tax personal baggage items

I'll be arriving there on 3/22, we'll have typical mid range dive gear for two, and about $1600 in photo gear. I don't expect to raise any eyebrows, but I'll post my experience here.

Bonaire airport customs starting to tax personal baggage items

Yeah I'm not freaking out or anything, just saying that if this going to be the new normal it's not good.

Bonaire airport customs starting to tax personal baggage items

I'm headed there end of March, if they are going to tax all my gear at 8% of what ever they decide it is worth, it may be the last time. For my wife and me they could easily say 3k you owe us $240, not cool.

Question want to step up from TG6 , but bit confused!

If the backscatter hybrid was available when I bought the MW4300 I would have had a hard time not buying it instead. Flexibility is priceless, and the weight savings is another thing to consider. I would have two strobes and a video light if the mood struck me. My d200 has a wide coverage, and...

Question want to step up from TG6 , but bit confused!

One more thing to consider before you drop a bunch of money on video lights. Do you enjoy editing video? I thought I might, turns out I don't. I have a smallish video light the backscatter MW4300, I mainly use it as supplemental light to soften shadows opposite the my strobe for photo, and as...

Question want to step up from TG6 , but bit confused!

So if it's mostly on screen and computer monitor you don't need the worlds biggest sensor. Sticking with a compact might make more sense. I have a TG 5 and some of the best pics I've taken with it were unhoused in 30-40 feet of water. The key to getting better as photographer is understanding...

Question want to step up from TG6 , but bit confused!

What is your end use of the images? Computer screen, printed 8X10s, or 48" posters? This, along with subject size/distance should guide your sensor choice, thereby camera choice.

Shore diving Curacao - Ocean Encounters

You should only need to fill your pony once just do it out of view. If you have three C cards on file you should be able to take 3 to 6 tanks at a time. No one's going to stop you from going into the water solo, especially if you have a pony, and your not getting equipment from the site you are at.

    Disturbing trend in diving?

Very first dive was a resort course on St Thomas in 1990, the instructor was very good, the dive was beach dive, loop around the little aquarium. Did two more boat dives with the shop the next day. Came home and got certified. Knowing what I learned in certification, I probably would not have...

Seeking Diving Buddy - Bonaire - Feb 11 to March 2nd

Where are you staying, who are you getting tanks from? I think Dive Friends has a buddy board. It's been a really long time but I think Buddy's resort had one.

The future of SLR cameras in dive photography?

I'm not sure you are correct about the manner in which the sensors are read.

The future of SLR cameras in dive photography?

Many phones do preflash which can be intercepted and transfered to strobes.
