What are the police doing to end the crime on Bonaire? - thread split

Just FYI, My wife and I were in Roatan during the coup.... mostly it was a non-event. And the biggest thieves were the monkeys who took items off the balconies of the FOREWARNED guests.

    Cold water diving advice

Because of all the items listed so far Be prepared to do fewer dives in a day and don't think twice about thumbing a dive before you even hit the water. Once you get cold, warming back up can take a lot of time.

    Bouyancy problem

Phil, Now that we know your instructor worked with you on your weighting (20lbs integrated per your followup) did you get the answer you were looking for? Reading between the lines: (filtered against typical new diver discussions) Perhaps there are other questions? Bouyancy - in...

CCR before or after OW training?

Not everyone can YouTube :(. Darn you Apple! Lol

    Bouyancy problem

It doesn't account for BMI or skill level and normally allows descent with padding for alum tanks. Proper weighting should be part of the class.

CCR before or after OW training?

After open water for various reasons starting with the changes to bounancy control on an OC bailout. If ccr was trained first would the student be OW certified as well?

    opinions on Tusa IQ-750?

Opinion based on a quick google search: Would not make my dive kit. You have to decide what features are right for you. For me it gets eliminated as it's not air integrated. I'm in information junkie and like reviewing dive profiles, air consumption, heart rates etc... How to Buy a Dive...

    Shallowest dives

Freezing can be dealt with a nice DrySuit and Argon, maybe a FFM to boot. DCS is always a risk. Planning for GTFO if someone gets hit with DCS will be the tricky part.

Breath holding to improve Sac rate?

    It's called skip breathing: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/basic-scuba-discussions/34374-what-skip-breathing.html

    Well, what could go wrong?

The dive does seem well planned and executed. DCS is always a possibility Lung expansion is still could have occured. Falling off the ladder has been mentioned. What about 1) No mention of a safety at 15 stop 2) Clear mention of keeping the guide in sight at the beginning of the...

    "What if ..?"

By the time someone is into tech diving "thumbing a dive" shouldn't be a issue any longer, neither the act of doing it OR honoring. However, I do think thumbing a dive is one of the things that isn't reinforced enough in Rec diving. While its talked about in class room, it's quickly thrown...

    "What if ..?"

I've heard the same from more than one diver and I believe they are all deadly serious. I think it's the difference between Rec and Tech, or amature vs pro... if your belowe 132 you were suppose to have Plan Bs and Gas management figured-out long ago and hello Darwin. For me it would...
