My new Hyperstretch is better than my custom!

Got the 7/5 suit (pretty well frayed at this point, but still going strong. I kinda like the fact that it gets all sorts of velcro pilling... reminds me that I've been diving. Who the hell wants gear that always looks new?), got the 7mm no-zip boots, got the 5/3 hood. To risk sounding...

Where was your first OW dive?

Los Arcos in Puerto Vallarta last year. This year I'm going back with some friends and it looks like my girlfriend's brother will be doing his check out dives in the same place. I'm excited to be able to actually see what the place looks like instead of just going, "Breath, breath...

Are you up for a good laugh!

No. THESE are truer words. I sometimes wonder, during my religious Monday morning checks of StrongBad's email, whether there really is anyone else out there who looks at this crap. Go Dumples!

    Am I a bad person

So I finally hastled one buddy into taking Open Water. Predictably, he loved it. Now I'm going on vacation with some friends and, of course, the first thing I dig in on is "Before we go, everyone needs to take Open Water lessons." I've got one bite, but I'm starting to feel guilty...

    Forgive Me.....I Forgot!!

Two words: Slap strap Easy to get backwards on the head and far more comfortable and secure feeling than the mask on the forehead.

    Stage Bottle valve.

DIN or Yolk? Why? Seems to me DIN would pretty much be standard (if you were going to go that way at all), but I keep seeing pictures of stage bottles with yolks on them. 'Sup with that?

    Recommendation for "low end" computer?

Switching A Suunto Cobra from EAN back to Air

As stated: it'll let you do it when the "do not fly" time is done counting down. Something else of note: if left dry and untouched for 2 hours (I'm pretty sure it's 2 hours) the Nitrox mix defaults to 21%.

At least we won't have to worry about Global Warming.

200 hectares per minute That's how fast the rainforests are vanishing. I don't think there's enough bog in the world to hold them in that esteemed light.

At least we won't have to worry about Global Warming.

We'll be too busy ice diving I'm interested in hypothoses on how the marine ecosystem would react. Reefs and surrounding life? Deep water pelegiacs? Or is it all screwed as we would, as is our MO, just kill everything and eat it?

    And above all else...

This Saturday I'm flying to Puerto Rico for my first liveaboard (Nekton Rorqual out to Mona Island)... by myself, sadly. So I've checked out all my gear, I've got my soap, non-petroleum suntan lotion, and a whole library of crap to read (all three ID books by Humann & Deloach, The complete...

    mares fins

Exact working replica of the Plana Avantis I'm currently upgrading from these to the quattros after kicking around a little with the latter. The quattros felt a little more... I dunno... finny. Felt like I could move in them easier. I'll let you know.

    Back-Inflate Opinions

This is the same thing that always flashes through my head when people talk about how much room they take up. "Take it apart. What's the big deal?"

    So whats the future???????????????

I think more immediately that nanoprobes that will devour in vitro nitrogen will be wrist computers that perform their own doppler tests or something at, say, 10 second intervals that will actually monitor actual nitrogen content of your actual body, instead of relying on some arcane algorithyms.

    So whats the future???????????????

I wouldn't be surprised at the rebreather thing. I'd be less surprised by ultra-high pressure tanks and regs. I wouldn't be surprised by coms being common, but I can gaurantee that I won't be using it, not for open water, anyway. Part of the reason it's so groovy down there is the ambient...

    Labret Piercing and scuba.

I just checked with a friend with a labret piercing. He reports that unless he had a tube stuck through it he couldn't suck water through. This was a 10 gauge. Why he was spending his time trying to suck water through it I can't imagine.
