Free Dive Trip on Palau for 2 - Ends 23 May 2014

Not to condemn, but just to clarify, the free part of this trip is the dives. You still have to pay for your airfare, hotel and meals except for lunch on dive days, correct?

Seeking coral reef photos for our 2015 calendar

What rights are you requesting that a photographer give to you? Also, is there any payment for photos? Any fee for submitting?

    No wetsuit required locations/time

I lived in Guam for a while when I was about 30 years younger and never wore a wetsuit there or anywhere else in Micronesia for that matter. Not sure I'd do that today, but then, I'm probably a little more sensitive to temps now (in my 60s)

Ocean Art Photo Competition deadline in 3 days - $80,000 in prizes!

Please thank the contest promoters for not making this contest a rights grab. I see on the website that all rights remain with the photographers, with the exception of promoting the contest itself. Thanks!!

Trying to get back into the fins

You might also want to check out Cozumel. My dive club in Las Vegas is doing a week of diving with all food, lodging, booze and 5 days of boat diving with afternoon shore dives included for $1075/person (not including air) at Casa Del Mar (nice place). Since you are in Canada, another Caribbean...

Travel Kit : What am I missing?

TSA may give you a problem with the canned air. Not sure, but just suggesting. Unless you are just talking about a bulb with a duster on it.

    Guam

Bearing in mind that I haven't lived on Guam for quite some time, but keep up with the local dive community, I would recommend MDA and would do either the Tokai Maru/SMS Cormorran or Blue Hole for the local dives. The Tokai dive is interesting in that you get to dive on a WWII wreck and a WWI...

    OLY E-M1 New Camera

It's a 2.8 lens instead of the 3.5-6.3. Much larger diameter due to that. It is considered a "pro" lens which may mean that the optics are better. Doesn't appear to have macro capability.

List of dive destinations to not go to...

I used to say the only places I would choose not to dive were the local lakes here in Southern Nevada. Not much to see, bad viz, cold thermocline, you know, typical lake diving. But, you know what, they are great places to practice skills. Then I found out that Lake Mojave has 40 feet of viz...

Considering Hawaii for our next dive vacation - Advice Needed

Hi, one thing I'd mention is that all the other sites you mentioned have warmer water than you'll fine in Hawaii. I love diving in Hawaii and was last there in June, 2012. Water temps off Lanai and Molokini averaged 75-78 degrees. Expect to wear a 3-5mm suit. In Hawaii, you'll find less corals...

    Maldives or Indonesia???

Hi guys! In about 2 years, I am planning on retiring. When that happens, I'm going to do a bucket list dive trip. I've been looking at both of these areas and both seem to offer a lot of quality diving. I'd like to get some opinions on which might be the best bang for the buck. I'm thinking of...

student dive vacation where to go?

Stein, I think anything tropical is probably out of your price range, if not for the diving itself, than for the cost of the transportation. But have you thought about anywhere in Europe, where you might be able to make it via train or ferry? I'm thinking either Spain (Malta, Ibiza, other small...

Would You Move Just So You Could Dive?

When I was in my 30s, unmarried and without debt, I moved to Guam to dive. I was fortunate to be asked to come and be photo chief at the Pacific Daily News and jumped at the chance. The diving was really great, but, sadly, the newspaper wasn't. That coupled with the cost of living and making...

    Screwed knee = screwed diver???

I've had a left total knee replacement. +1 to getting pt early and really working it. I'm 6 years out from my replacement and am not having too many problems with the knee. BUT, I slacked off on the knee bending and my flexibility has suffered, now I'm having to do much more therapy to regain...

water temps on Oahu in November?

Hi guys! I may have a short business trip to Oahu in late November or early December. I'd be able to get in 2-3 days of diving. In the past, when I've been in Hawaii in June and Sept. I've used a 3mm suit. Would that still be good for the Nov-Dec dates? Thanks!

Testing gear on land vs water - what considerations?

One thing to do is put a pair of gloves on if you generally wear gloves in the water. Pushing the buttons with gloves on is different than without!

    Looking for a custom drysuit

Hi guys! Well, I've finally come to the realization that I need a drysuit. Problem is that I just don't fit in an off-the-rack drysuit. When looking at the sizes, I usually end up finding something that will fit my waist and chest, but ends up about 6-8 inches too long in the legs and a couple...
