Do I need to send the Suunto D6 back to install a new strap? I can purchase the strap, but the dive shop told me that you need to send it back to Suunto since the watch is sealed and you can jeopardize the seal if you open the watch up yourself to replace the strap. Is this correct?

Kudos to you. It takes a bigger person to make the judgement call you did. There's no scuba police out there in the ocean checking certification cards or training history. I see people all the time doing dives they're not trained to do, and you have to be strong enough sometimes to check...

Yeah, I'm not knocking the getaway experience of heading to Catalina. It's just that if you are purely planning on getting dives in and maximizing value, weekday dive boats are hard to beat (with weekend dive boats a close second).
