In echo of many of the previous comments, a great computer for what you get, but personally I find the one button interface really frustrating. In terms of VFM I'd prefer to spend a little extra on Suunto Zoop.
Looks like a good list, and will be a great set of gear for teaching in too after your IDC - good quality with good warranty agreements (particularly Aqualung) and not to dissimilar to any rental gear so easy for your students too. If you have the extra cash, I'd go for open heel fins and...
Gear choices in general are very subjective. Everyone will have their own personal preference when it comes to brands of gear. Personally I use Aqualung - good quality, comfortable and with an excellent warranty agreement, which they are very good about honouring. We also use aqualung rental...
The only way to plan dives hours ahead of entry time that I know of is by using the PADI ERDPML (electronic multilevel dive planner). You'll learn how to use it in the PADI system if you take the 'Computer & Multilevel Diving' option in your advanced open water course. It will be conservative...
You'll have an amazing experience doing your DM out in Borneo. Of the companies out there I only have personal experience of Scuba Junkie, and its all good. They seemed well organised enough, the staff were friendly and they do alot of conservation and eco stuff - always a bonus IMO. That being...
Glad it finally came through for you. Hopefully you will have better experiences (with another shop!) on your future dives and courses. Don't let this experience put you off though, there's plenty good guys out there still.
Happy diving :)
Everyone face is different, and therefore mask recommendations can be hit or miss. The Oceanic mini shadow is normally a winner though, and super comfy. But yes, definitely go to an outlet and try some on - you may even be able to take some for a test dive.
Yeah that's exactly the same problem I have. Agreed its very frustrating. The only real solution is a better grade of laptop, but that's way down on my list of priority purchases.....
Something smells funky here. There should be absolutely no reason not to issue a temporary cert if they cannot provide the cert card proper on course completion. And certainly no call for refusing your request for one. Definitely not a cool way to run business, and no doubt other customers will...
Yep, definitely better to go pro with PADI then crossover. As a larger agency with more affiliated shops, you have better chance of employment with PADI. That being said, if you find yourself needing to be dual rated in future you can do an upgrade or crossover course - and crossing from PADI to...
Scubasteve + 1 with regards to other files and folders open whilst trying to play and edit. I've found exactly the same thing, but the end product usually comes out fine - even though the road to get there is a bit more frustrating. The computer you use has a lot to do with it too. I've got a...
Yep, your logbook can serve of proof of your cert - presuming you were issued one and it was filled in correctly. Sounds like the dive centre is dragging its feet on the cert - it should have been processed within 48hours. So definitely follow it up, and get onto your regional SSI head office...
We use Suunto Zoops as our rental computers, and have software we can use to reset them in between rentals. But yes, if the centre you are renting from doesn't have/use these practices, you will need to check the no fly time and dive planning mode to see what your limits are.
So am I understanding correctly that you had 2 Zoops and 1 failed? In that case why not just get another 2nd Zoop? Fulfills all of your requirements, plus they'd be the same in terms of conservatism if one failed.
If you're stuck on the aesthetics of a watch style computer the Suunti D4i is reasonably priced. It accounts for use on both air and Eanx and is easy to use. I have one and find it both straightforward to navigate, and easy to read and follow underwater - but then I do not (yet!) have the issue...
Handy hint for getting better deals on flights: clear your cookies & browser history before re-searching. Many of the flight providers have software built into their websites, so if they know you've searched before from the same IP address, they know - and will adjust the prices you get in your...
I normally recommend that DM candidates work to their strengths in terms of the swim tests. By completing the ones they are more confident with first, it gives a realistic expectation of what point score is required - and therefore how much additional training they'll need to put it - to achieve...
For me it'd be an outright no. There's just too little research in this field to be able to make a decision on what is 'safe'. But personally I would never allow a pregnant female into one of my classes - or allow any other staff to - regardless of whether its was just a pool session or not...
