Looking for a dive buddy in East Hawaii?

Mine cost £9.36 per fill last year. Slightly more than the nearest fill station, but I didn't have the 50 mile round trip to make. The total cost per dive was arount £30 including depreciation; it would have been lower, but I opted to do one dive on many occations rather than 2.

Is Master Scuba Diver "worth it" in your opinion

I had a club meber who was refused the dive because he didn't have a drysuit certification. I send them evidence of the 20 drysuit courses he had run - allowed to dive, but wouldn't bother again, too much hype over the dive.

Long term Travel with dive gear

If you plan working at a dive centre, remember you’ll need work permits on entry to most countries. For Thailand, I think it’s 3 month then you have to leave the country to renew.

Going into Deco as Rec Diver

On a recent 36m dive my computer twice indicated a 4 min mandatory stop. Once at 22m which cleared by the time we got up to 15m, then again at 12m but cleared before we got to 9m - then a normal 3 min safety at 6m, total dive time 70 min. The important aspect is calculating the gas requirement...

Thoughts on purchase of unused, long-discontinued BCD?

I’ve got an old AP Valves jacket (considered indestructible) which I haven’t used in 15 years. If I wanted to bring it back into service I would send it to AP to get the inner bag, hoses and O-rings charged. The chances they’re all brittle now and will crack when used.

Anyone else really nervous in the beginning?

I’ve done hundreds of unknown dive sites. It’s how to expand the known ones. Yes, plan maximum depth, time and gas (air) requirements, research for information on entry and exit, tides and current, weather, what your expecting to see, location of public phones (if no mobile sign), availability...

Anyone else really nervous in the beginning?

Even though you’re with a guide/instructor you should get into the habit of planning your own dive profiles. I confirm that my students have gone through the planning cycle for each dive. That way they are better prepared for the day they’re not with a competent guide/instructor or even diving...

Packing for long-term travel with scuba gear

Be careful going into Australia and New Zealand, they are very touchy about visitors having the possibility of working. And will refuse entry on a whim.

Anyone else really nervous in the beginning?

If you weren’t diving with your own computer. Tell us you planned the dives using tables before getting in the water. Ideally, you had a slate with max depth and times on it.
