Maybe they didn't and have been replaced by aliens that can breathe water

    Stowing stage bottle regulator

Indeed :) Maybe I should go add clips to all my regs to make up for it. Maybe I will add one to my necklace second stage too, so I can clip it off to a D-ring to avoid getting entangled when doffing my gear in the water. Maybe one on my Argon hose too --- you never know, right ? There...

    Stowing stage bottle regulator

In a cave or overhead, everything always gets stowed under both bands (or clipped), no exceptions because it takes about 5 seconds extra (especially with no gloves in the kind of caves I like to do :) In Open water I am guilty on an ascent with what I would consider no chance of entanglement...

    1) my mistake --- all you people with aliases and nothing in the bottom of your posts with names in it get me confused 2) adjust your #of posts per page I am of course at this point regretting breaking my "it's just not worth posting here" self-imposed ban (again)

    Stowing stage bottle regulator

Ok, let me summarize; There are gas breaks at (at least) 20,30,80 feet for various reasons. You and James see the 20 foot one as being "different" because you go back and forth more and you are close to the cavern/edge of the cave most likely and probably sitting still so you hopefully...

    Stowing stage bottle regulator

Yes you are. I just dont do it that way, and neither does anyone that I know that I dive with. Admittedly we aren't doing 60 mins at 20 feet. I just do it the same way all the time, and stow things cleanly and properly, and yes, part of that is based on (an) experience (although not related...

    Stowing stage bottle regulator

With 3 deco bottles, gas breaks at 80, 30 and then 20. You are explaining it perfectly, I just dont do it that way. I stow the hose completely. Maybe in a trough is one thing, but as a general practice, no, and I dont think it makes it worth having a permanent clip. Maybe I'm just weird.

    Stowing stage bottle regulator

I get exactly what you are saying, I just dont agree with just clipping it off like that on a gas break, especially a break at 30 or 80 feet when you may have to move. I was taught to do things properly and the same way each time because you never know when something small like that's going...

    Stowing stage bottle regulator

Didn't seem like it. Two but one breaks, use the clip or if you dont have one, deal with it (or sometimes a double-ender will fit over the hose in a pinch)

each to his own I guess, I was taught to stow it fully.

    Stowing stage bottle regulator

You could. But it's definitely not as neat, and the hose is more prone to snagging, especially if the bottle is on a lease. I also must have missed the "Great rubber band shortage of 1987" wherein we could only afford one per bottle ... got a link to that ?

Really ? how do you use it on gas breaks ?

    Stowing stage bottle regulator

I will take a pic later. It's just a very small loop of bungee like that on the back of a light ballast, tied right by the second stage. If one of the rubber retainers breaks, move the remaining one to the bottom, and clip a double ender into that loop, and to the top boltsnap on the stage...

    Stowing stage bottle regulator

I am not a materials expert, but the water in the cenotes sometimes has sulphur layers and bacterial layers in it. I don't know if thats it or not. Couple that with the fact that the tanks are often stored in the sun, and when us "tourists" go cave diving, we are mostly using rentals which...

    Stowing stage bottle regulator

Indeed. it's possible clips would have been fine too (the requirement was for some way to stow the second stage with bungee loop being the highly preferred way of doing it, read into that what you will/like)

    Stowing stage bottle regulator

Sure, I guess you could use clips, but then if you have 3+ bottles, that's 3 extra clips that can get snagged, as opposed to a small loop of bungee and one double-ender on a clip (that you already carry) or in a pocket. Rainer doesn't have cave training, so he's probably a bit like "limeyx...
